Wisdom teeth extraction-pain on side of my face?

ok, it's been 5 days since i had my left top%26amp;bottom wisdom teeth extracted. the surgeon had to drill in my mouth to get them out. anyways, it seems like the pain is going away except when i get up in the morning. i feel throbbing on the left side of my face from the top of my head, my ear, cheek, and neck...is this normal? do you think this will go away in a week. im afraid there is nerve damage. my lips and tongue are not tingling, so i hope i am ok. i am doing the warm compresses, rinsing with warm water and salt. and taking pain medication.

Yes, I think it's normal. I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled a long time ago. I looked like I had the mumps for about a week and it felt like someone was hitting me in the head with a hammer
Reply:It sounds like you're doing everything ok. Dry socket pain is usually a constant. I don't know how old you are, but usually if you are past your teens, early 20's, it takes a little longer to feel better. Nerve damage is a slight tingly/numb sensation your pain doesn't sound like that. Most people get past the worst part during the first 3-5 days, if not I'd give your dentist a call just to make sure everything is ok. Feel Better.
Reply:I have the same problem but it has only been one day, so it is to be expected I guess. My right side of my face by me jaw line is hot, red, and swollen. It hurts! I have Vicadin, but that stuff makes me feel loopy and dizzy and not in a good way. So I am sticking with the Motrin. Anyways, I guess it is normal for it to still be swollen abd throbbing because it is less than a week and you did have oral surgery. You could have an infection though. My oral surgeon said that for the top teeth, when removed might leave a small hole in the nasal cavity. So I say if you are in pain, you might want to go in again.
