Is there anything u can take to help with the pain in ur teeth beside anbestos.it not helping?
Advil is exellent for toothache pain
Reply:Cloves.....really. It's an old wives remedy , but it works. Place whole cloves on your gums next to the affected area. It does relieve pain temporarily. Make sure you see a dentist soon. Your teeth and gums are not something you should ignore!
Reply:Usually 800mg of ibuprofen helps, but if you can't get a perscription take 3 Advil. Avoid extremly hot and cold beverages and brush your teeth with a paste such as Sensodine.

I feel for you, I'd rather have a butt whooping than a toothache.
Reply:These are pretty drastic, but...

rinse your mouth with rubbing alcohol or vodka or rum. Dont swallow the rubbing alcohol! Try to hold it in your mouth for as long as you can stand it.

Another drastic one is to rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide, but again, DON'T SWALLOW IT!!! You'll also want to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after that one.
Reply:Return to that dentist, and let him suggest the next...

My jaw clicks when i open wide and now I'm having pain on my teeth are they related? can a mouthguard help?

my jaw has been clicking for about 3 years now. I went to the dentist and it turns out it's because my jaw isn't aligned correctly so I got a $500 splint. I started wearing it and it made no difference because it was made incorrectly. so for about a year i ignored the pain and now its come back. I sometimes grind my teeth at night and I don't know if this is why i now have pain in both my teeth and my jaw. I was thinking of getting a mouthguard from the pharmacy, could this help.

TMJ..Go to...http://www.tmj.org/
Reply:Clicking and pain in the jaw usually indicates TMJ Disfunction. Whomever made the splint needs to do it again if you paid for it. Try the mouth guard and make sure you care for the jaw by not chewing gum, hard things, go easy on chewy foods and massage it before going to bed at night. One bad thing is caffiene, it tenses up muscles, especially your jaw.

You may need to see an orthodontist to be evaluated.
Reply:You might have a TMJ (TemporoMandibular Joint) disorder. You might need a surgery.

Massive pain in head, ears, teeth after running, bike riding, any type of hard exercise?

For as long as I can remember I've always gotten really bad headaches when I run, ride a bike, or swing dance (any really hard type of exercise). I can't even run to the end of my block without it happening. The pain goes from the back of my head, down through my ears, to my teeth. It hurts so bad I can't do anything but sit there until it goes away, I can't even open my mouth to talk because the air on my teeth causes even worse pain. The pain only last for about 5 to 10 minutes and then I'm fine. I've tried putting earplugs in while running, different breathing techniques, and just pushing through it, but nothing helped.

About 7 years ago I finally talked to my doctor about it and he sent me to a neurologist. After a year of tests, useless physical therapy, and constantly switching meds, I just gave up and decided to live with it. I'm thinking about seeing a doctor about it again, but am not sure if I want to deal with it. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Massive pain in head, ears, teeth after running, bike riding, any type of hard exercise?
As a physical therapist myself, I experienced this and wondered if I was having cervical related headaches. I fortunately had the chance to have a nationally known PT (who is an expert in cervical headaches) examine me and I too, was found to not have my headaches related to any type of neck problem.

I'm sure you've had other problems ruled out such as high blood pressure, anneurysm, AVM, etc. by having your BP checked and have gone through an MRI and MRA. Once those have been cleared, I suggest you follow up regarding the possibility of "effort headaches." These are headaches caused by the very mechanisms you describe. The good news is, they are usually nothing serious and taking an anti-inflammatory before you exercise is usually enough.

There is some discrepancy between effort and exertion headaches...one being caused by short, strenuous activity (such as lifting...often called a weight lifters headche) and is usually brief...while the other is caused primarily by cardiovascular activity and can happen within minutes or hours and last several hours. There is arugement as to which is an effort and which is an exertion headache...but I believe the approach to treatment is the same...1: make sure nothing else more sinister is going on and 2: anti-inflammatories prophylacitcally.

My physician decided to put me on a beta blocker (which is usually for high blood pressure). Even though I do not have high blood pressure, this seems to have been very effective for me. My headaches are greatly reduced.

I've also found that avoiding exercise in hot weather and avoiding exertion beyond 70% of my maximum heart rate is effective. (It's harder to get your heart rate up while on the beta blocker).

My headaches were primarily caused by swimming, running, etc...and were so severe I'd often vomit...I feel much better now.

Good luck.
Reply:Wow, I have never heard of that. Must be hard.
Reply:I am definitely voting chiropractor on this one!

This sounds exactly like a cervical misalignment! I have very similar issues and a trip (or two) to the chiro takes it all away!

Please please try a chiropractor. I am betting you will wonder why you waited so long! And be patient with your course of therapy -- natural alternatives such as chiropractic may take a little longer.

Wisdom teeth partially removed, Now getting pain in root canaled teeth?

My wisdom teeth was partially removed by cutting more than half and closed it by stiching. Doctor says, partial teeth left will not cause any problem-muscle will develop. Now I am getting lot of pain in the root canaled teeth. Why is the Pain?

Wisdom teeth partially removed, Now getting pain in root canaled teeth?
RC tooth cannot pain because it is completely dead. You may be suffering from Phantom pain. Check with the doctor.
Reply:Get back to the dentist right away, sounds infected and you may need antibiotics!
Reply:you need some percs and vics our nerve endings work in crazy ways man. sometimes its unexplained. for now take 800mg of ibuprof no more than 4 times in 24 hour period and get back to the dentist promptly for a more extensive follow up and dammit man ask questions ! how can they treat us properly without thoughtful and DETAILED information
Reply:If you are grinding your teeth as you sleep and putting a lot of pressure on the root ends, even though the nerves have been removed from the root canal, maybe it would hurt deep in the jaw. It could cause inflammation and pain.

Is it normal or at least "heard of" to get pain / pressure in teeth months after wisdom tooth removal?

Hello,

About 4 months ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed (the top 2). Only about 1 week ago, I started to get a decent amount of pressure in my pallate, upper jaw, and molars situated right in front of the extraction site. Maybe this co-incides with the onset of really cold weather, maybe not. But has anyone ever heard of something like this? I do grind my teeth at night (that will be taken care of) but could the resulting pressure (less pain, than an annoying ache and pressure) be due to this ?

Thank you,

Mike

Is it normal or at least "heard of" to get pain / pressure in teeth months after wisdom tooth removal?
MIKE,

IF YOU HABITUALLY GRIND YOUR TEETH AND THE WISDOMS WERE REMOVED, THE WAY THE TEETH COME TOGETHER WHEN YOU GRIND AT NIGHT WILL START TO FEEL DIFFERENT BECAUSE THE WISDOM TEETH WHICH PREVIOUSLY TOOK MUCH OF THE GRINDING PRESSURE ARE NOW GONE.

TO RESOLVE THE GRINDING PROBLEM AT NIGHT HAVE YOUR DENTIST MAKE YOU AN N.T.I. BRUXISM APPLIANCE. THIS DOESN'T WORK LIKE A TRADITIONAL NIGHT GUARD WHERE YOU'RE STILL GRINDING, BUT MAKE IT SO YOUR TEETH NEVER ARE ABLE TO TOUCH TO GRIND IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY PATIENTS ALL LOVE THEIR APPLIANCES AND HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THEIR HEADACHES AND NECK TENSIONS HAVE GREATLY DIMINISHED.
Reply:i got my wisdom teeth taken out in june...during the summer i would get some pain around the areas and i went back to the dentist. he gave me a thing that looks like a shot that is used to rinse out all the crap that gets stuck in there. that's what was causing my pain, a bunch of food buildup that was in the extraction site. hope that helps!
Reply:yes, and it happens more in cold weather.
Reply:You have a pain syndrome. It's very common and it's called having "phantom pains". It is caused by having excess glucose. It is considered "real" pain and you should take something for it.

Why am I still in so much pain after wisdom teeth removal?

I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Wednesday and today is Sunday. I was taking Vicaden and Motrin but the Vicaden made me vomit A LOT so I called my dentist and he told me to stop taking Vicaden and take Tylenol instead so i did and that did not help at all. I went to the Urgent Care Center (on a Military Installation) and they prescribed me Percosat and more Motrin. When I took the Percosat at first it was such a relief but as it started to wear off and I took it for the second time I still feel some pain, not a lot, but I am still not comfortable. Could I maybe have dry socket or is the medicine just not strong enough?

Please no silly answers. Take into mind that I am in the Military and we don't have emergency dentist on call so I have to wait until a duty day to get seen. I have been in excruciating pain all weekend.

Why am I still in so much pain after wisdom teeth removal?
Percocet is about as strong a pain medicine as you'll be able to get... But as with all pain meds, you can't just take the meds once, and then take it again once you feel the pain returning.

The reason is that a certain percentage of the drug is broken down in your body each hour, and eventually the drug drops below the effective therapeutic level. Once that happens, the nerve conduction in the pain pathways re-activate and it may be harder for you to achieve total comfort. This may have happened to you.

The best thing would be to keep on taking the pain meds as prescribed by your doctor, as scheduled. Check the prescription - see if there's a range for the timing. Does it say something like "take every X to Y hrs as needed for pain'"? If so, then you might want to take it closer to X hours rather than Y - you want to keep the therapeutic levels in your body at all times.

That said, it may be possible that you have dry socket in one or more extraction sites. You should visit the dentist regardless for follow-up anyway.
Reply:When you remove a tooth, you create a hole in the jawbone the same size as the tooth you removed. Had you drilled a hole that size in your upper leg, you would not be surprised that it hurt like a wooley booger- would you? You are not going to be comfortable in that site for a while- but yes, you may have a dry socket if the pain is a dull ache in the jawbone itself, below where the tooth was originally. It will not feel like it is located in the gum. You have an Urgent Care Clinic, but there should still be a dentist on call for emergencies and if you return to the UCC the doctor on duty- or the tech for that matter- can call them in to see you. They can pack the site with iodoform guaze and send you off again feeling much better. If that is really just not the option for you, then the next thing is to drink water until your molars float. Let the liquid pool in the cheek pocket at the extraction site. That will get some fluid into the area to rehydrate things a little. Not perfect, but it can help. The Percocet and Mortin will help dull it some as well. If you like, you can also call the UCC and ask if they have a dentist on call to see you- the answer should be yes. They don't like to come in for cavities- but they do come in for post op problems. Not like they have much choice, really.
Reply:Getting your wisdom teeth taken out is a major surgery! You can't expect to have someone slice into your mouth and you feel find a few days later. Its take AT LEAST a week.

Everyone is different. Some people handle pain better than others. Me for example: I only took Motrin after when I got my wisdom teeth removed. I took meds for about 3 days and then I was fine. My stitches even fell out and bleeding and soreness stopped. I heal fast...

On the other hand.. my friend... it took her like 2 weeks to fully recover. Her face was swollen and she said she was in terrible pain.

The best thing to do is to put a hot pack on your mouth to sooth the pain... that worked for me.

Remember, just because you take some meds doesn't mean that you aren't going to feel any pain. You are going to feel SOME pain, but it should be small enough for you to be able to relax and get the rest you need.

Give it until next Sunday and if you still don't feel better.. go to the doctor again.
Reply:Sorry to tell you, but it can take a week to 10 days for some people to heal enough to do without pain medication. Everyone has a pain threshold, and if you're in pain, you're in pain. Having more than one extraction in a single visit can make pain worse, simply because the amount of surgical trauma is greater, and the number of sites quickly fatigue you, and cause tension in neck muscles, tongue, and cheek, as you try to breathe and speak.

Unfortunately, head and facial nerves have short, direct paths to the brain, and systemic medications like Tylenol and even codeine laced variants of Tylenol (T3) and synthetic opiates don't do much about dental pain, for many people.

Ice, or frozen peas, applied externally may help. Rinsing your mouth, if you're permitted, perhaps with a salt water solution may help.

But it is possible you're healing has gone awry, and you are experiencing a dry socket. If you can see a well developed brown clot in the extraction, that is usually not the case. But do make sick call first thing tomorrow, regardless of how you feel.

If you're in the first stages of an infection, you don't want that to get far along.
Reply:ok so heres what happened to me...

I got my wisdom teeth taken out on a tuesday and the swelling allmost was all the way down by thursday. Then friday, i got an infection and the swelling came back. I had to go back to the dentist to get it cleaned...then it healed normally and didnt hurt any more.

I think you might have an infection in your gums were the teeth used to be. Its been too long since you got them out for them to just be sore. Has the swelling gone away? if not then its probably an infection.

if you have any other questions dont hesitate to get back to me!

p.s. what branch of the military are you in? im going into the marines at the end of my school year.
Reply:I was in pain for at least a couple of weeks after my wisdoms were out. I could barely open my mouth even alittle bit. In fact, my jaw hurt (dentist said from being opened wide so long for the surgery and from the extraction) so badly that I remember losing wt. because I didn't want to open my mouth to eat. I was on Darvocet but Motrin 600 mg. worked best.
Reply:first of all, vomiting is bad for you because it dislodges the clots that are in charge of healing so the change to tylenol was good...keep taking the percosat and motrin at the smallest intervals...like if it says "2-4 hours" take it every 2 hours...use moist heat compresses too

my daughter got hers extracted last tuesday and on saturday she ate some rice but that was the first day to eat anything "not soft" and then today she felt significantly better and drove back to college(a 3 hour drive)...she has taken advil and demoral and done the ice packs for 48 hours then moist heat compresses and she is well on the way to back to normal...and she has been taking only advil since friday afternoon...but you should see a dentist on next duty day to check for dry socket

Is it normal to feel pain in your teeth 2 hours after you go to the dentist?

its been 2 hours since i went to the dentist and my teeth are just killing me, every time i bite down, i feel pain. is this normal?

Is it normal to feel pain in your teeth 2 hours after you go to the dentist?
I feel it like the whole DAY after I go to the dentist! I hate when they floss for you and like dig way deep in your gums, that hurts so bad. It's like "Thanks, I know how to floss."

I wouldn't be worried. If it lasts more than a day, call your dentist and tell them your concerns.
Reply:In your teeth or in your gums?
Reply:yeah maybe their jus sore..it'll be okay
Reply:I'm always sore after the dentist - even if it's just a cleaning.
Reply:Yes
Reply:If you had major work, yes.

If not, well, another trip back perhaps.
Reply:It depends on what you just had done. There can be pain from cleaning but not for long. But fillings or teeth pulled can hurt for quite awhile.
Reply:this depends on the procedure. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time and got a whammy dose of novacain. I dont think it should be extremelly painful like that.
Reply:I never had that problem when I leave the dentist's office....but maybe you are sensitive in the gums and teeth or you had some deep dental work like a root canal. Give it a day, and if it continues, contact your dentist so he can help you.
Reply:If the dentist did work like a filling, it's totally normal to feel pain after the pain killer wears off.
Reply:depends what you got done, if you had a cavity filled or had braces tightened then yes .. if it was just a check up and now your teeth hurt you should probably call the dentist office if it's still open
Reply:Yeah sometimes it happens. Try using some mouth wash and sensitive tooth paste.
Reply:yes, its normal. but it depends on the doctor, he/she should do x-rays for you to check the conditions of your tooth. maybe it got infection, and you have to end up doin root canal treatment.
Reply:It all depends on the type of work done on you. It should not hurt after a couple of hours. If will be painful, your dentist needs to explain why and give you a course of action. It's late now, I think taking some Advil will ease the pain. If the pain is still there when you wake up in the morning, I'd give the dentist a call.

Hope you feel better.
Reply:U have your tooth pulled? If yes, it's normal coz u will get the pain after the "pain killer' (medicine) went off. Anyway, its vary and depend to each individual...
Reply:yes. the dentist was poking around your gums which probably hit a nerve. being that the gums aren't usually being poked at, it's gonna hurt a little bit. If it lasts more than a day, something's messed up.
Reply:I recently had fillings put in my teeth, and the doctor told me that I was going to have pain for the next 3-4 weeks, so depending on what you had done (at the dentist) It could be normal
Reply:It depends did you get fillings? if so then yes it might hurt you for about a day or two if longer then I would call you Dentist but really don't worry about it to much.
Reply:It is if you have a little exposed gumline (normal) or if you have been needing to have brushed regularly at the gumline, so he needed to chipp away at your gumline- tartar there. Hot and cold sensitivity?
Reply:Yes it is. You can rinse with warm salt water to help ease the pain. The warm water eases the muscles and the salt protects against minor infection in the mouth. You can also use orajel to numb the area that hurts. It doesn't taste wonderful but it will kill the pain.
Reply:Well yeah, but it depends on what the dentist did with your teeth. You know like getting braces. Overall I think it's pretty normal to get sore after a visit to the dentist.
Reply:I THINK IT IS NORMAL BECAUSE WHEN I GO TO THE DENTIST I ALWAYS FEEL PAIN FOR THE REST OF THE DAY
Reply:It depends on what you had done, as everyone has said. But it also depends on whether or not you have sensitive teeth. If it were a crown or root canal, you may have some soreness....if you've had a tooth extracted, again you will have some soreness. If you've had a cavity restored, it may be that all the decay wasn't taken out, there might be an infection or maybe the cavity wasn't fully put in. If you did have a cavity...composite fillings are made hard with an ultraviolet light and you should be fine. If it was an amalgam filling or silver filling (they're the same thing) then it takes a few hours for that to fully harden.

you're going to have to be a bit more specific. i'm a dental assistant but i can only go so far as to figure out what kind of pain you're feeling, but i hope it helped. GOOD LUCK =)
Reply:Yes, even if it's a cleaning.

If you rarely ever floss your teeth or haven't gotten your teeth cleaned in awhile, your gums are going to be a little sore. Keep flossing and get them cleaned every 6 months and the gums should toughen up, not to mention there will be less work to do if you keep up the regimen.

If it was more serious than a cleaning, yes, of course they're going to hurt 2 hrs later. :)

What should I do about the pain in my teeth? ( plz read description)?

Ok, so i went to my orthadontist and before she said i didn't need an expander but now she is saying yes and so today she put spacers in my teeth (these little blue rubber bands that she jammed in between my teeth) I am not the type of person that takes medicene for pain but i will take Advil just not right now. Any other suggestions besides medicene and/or pills

What should I do about the pain in my teeth? ( plz read description)?
Stick with the Advil. The pain should go away after a day or so.
Reply:How about getting some oral gel like Ambasol (I think that's how its spelled) You can buy some at a pharmacy. It will numb your gums.
Reply:You could ask your doctor about this.

My dentist gave me this thing that looks like a hollow half circle. Kind of like a retiner, even, without the roof and bar across the teeth. It comes in mulitple flavors to! You start chewing on it when you get your braces, tightenings, ect.... You start chewing on it before the pain starts and it helps reduce pain. The meds are also a good idea.
Reply:To get ride of the pain in your mouth you can drink cold water or suck on ice. That is what my cousin does.

Is it normal to have some pain with wisdom teeth?

My daughters wisdom teeth are breaking through the skin and she has some pain . Is this uncomfortableness normal and will pass once the tooth is fully in ? or does it possibly mean that they need extracting ?

Is it normal to have some pain with wisdom teeth?
Its normal to have lots of pain when wisdom teeth are erupting. OWWWWWW. Just like when she was cutting teeth as a baby.
Reply:You should make a dentist appointment, quick. I got all of mine out.

As for the amount of pain after surgery... For some people, it's painless, for others, it's awful.

Personally, it took me about three weeks for the pain to go away. =/
Reply:some people have this pain and some don't, personally mine never bothered me, this sometimes is a sign their growing in wrong, it would be best to seek out a dentist to be sure though.
Reply:It depends on how they are growing. If they are growing straight down, extracting is not necessary. It is necessary however if they are growing towards the teeth that are already in.
Reply:Well i don't know but it sounds like something is going to go good
Reply:In Germany wisdom teeth get extracted- pain or no pain...- as soon as they break through....at least that's how it was when I lived there...apparently because they rot faster back there.
Reply:Just as when she was an infant and cutting her baby teeth, her gums will be sensitive to the teeth breaking through; however, you might take her to her dentist and have the wisdom teeth xrayed to be sure they are growing in straight and are not crowding her other teeth. If there is a problem with the way they are growing, better to allow them to be removed before they cause other, more major problems. Your dentist can best advise you.
Reply:Yeah, pain is normal. There is a chance that they won't have to be extracted, but the amount of pain experienced is no indication. Mostly, dentists like to remove them under any circumstances because they are hard to clean, leading to more cavitites. The chances are small that a dentist will recommend leaving them in.

However, as long as the pain isn't too bad, she can leave them in for awhile, until you have the time and money to have them removed. I have some pain from mine, but they've been in for more than a year. I'm supposed to have them removed eventually, but there is no rush.
Reply:believe me it's natural..actually I'm having the same pain right now....and my mom she is a nurse and she told me that it will pass once the tooth is fully in..
Reply:To some they create no pain at all, if u have unbearable pain, u will have to extract em..
Reply:yes , the teeth are trying to come through and usually don't have enough room, pushing on other teeth.

also when trying to break through the gum tissue it usually will get swollen because the teeth opposite the area is crunching down causing it to swell.

food gets cauhgt under the tissue also causing pain.

try swishing with listerine and "lightly" massage the tissue (If you can) to get any thing caught under there out.

Then see your dentist
Reply:Yes, it's nornal to have some pain with wisdom teeth. I don't know if they need extracting. See a dentist. Goood luck.
Reply:Be Sensitive to your Teeth. If you can't even touch the tooth, that's and ache, But if the tooth is merely reaching to heat or cold, them it's a problem with sensitivity. Lot's of people have dental hypersensitivity, and it begins when the dentin underneath the tooth enamel becomes exposed usually at the gum line. Age, receding gums, surgery, and overzealous brushing with harsh paste and hard brushes can expose the dentin, most dentist recommends and over the counter toothpaste made especially for people with sensitive teeth, applied with a soft nylon bristle brush. such toothpastes include Sansone, Promise, protect, Thurmond, and denguel. And if you are noticing sensitivity for the first time, it makes good sense to see your dentist to make sure you have no other problem.
Reply:Yes it is normal to experience pain when a large tooth is bursting through your gums. Should the pain be unbearable and continue after the tooth is errupted you should see a dentist.
Reply:Its painful when they come in but if she does not have enough room for them they will push on her molars and cause real problems.

You might want to have the dentist look at them.

Its easier to have them removed BEFORE they come in all the way.
Reply:its normal. i just had my extracted and it is just as painful to have them removed =(

How Do I getRid Of this Pain from Wisdom Teeth Growing In?

I am 19 years old and 30 weeks pregnant...and just a couple of days my wisdom teeth started growing in. It was kind of sore at first but now the whole area on the left side of my mouth where the molars are the gum is very swollen and soft and its very painful....it looks lik a big swollen soft bump. It hurts alot what can i do to take the pain away. Can i go to the dentist and get them pulled or something while im pregnant? Plz help in a lot of pain i can hardly eat...

How Do I getRid Of this Pain from Wisdom Teeth Growing In?
Before I did or took anything, I would call to to my dentist. They can be removed before they come through. But, in your condition, I would think they would want to wait. And I would not take any type of medicine w/o discussing w/my doctor.

Have you tried to use Oral Gel" to temporarily numb the pain? Also, washing your mouth out with warm salt water will help. If the gum is real swollen, try a cold pack against the jaw for about 15 min, and if the swelling has gone down, use heat on it for the same amount of time. You rotate this if the swelling keeps coming back

I had to same problem when I was 19 with my first son, and we are all healthy, wealthy and wise. My children are grown and I have three beautiful grand children......lol :)

It really was painful but I had to do the things I recommended to you. Once the baby arrives and you can get to an oral surgeon, they can remove it so it will no longer bother you. I just had one removed and it did not hurt at all.
Reply:take an advil
Reply:Ibuprofen works pretty well. So does a liquid valiium.
Reply:Consult your doctor, don't listen to anyone on here.
Reply:agree with that guy. dont listen to anybody here. see a doctor
Reply:I doubt they would do it while your pregnant, because of the baby's health. Just take advil or get some gel or something for tooth aches! Wisdom teeth do hurt coming in, usually when they hurt, they need to come out! Sorry. Dont be gettin all snotty with peoples answers. They are just tryin to help. Shi* pregnant at 19, GREAT PARENTS!!!!!!!
Reply:Take advil and find out. But have your dentist refer you to an Oral Surgeon. I had mine out in November and had 0 prolems. They will tell you or not if this can be done while you are pregnant.
Reply:You should call your primary care doctor and ask what would be safe for you to take.

In the mean time put a cold compress up against your cheek to help numb the pain.
Reply:For temporary relief, you can get OraGel at the drug store. Rubbing it on your gums will deaden them. (They make something similar in a milder form for teething babies.)

Then do call your dentist's office and talk to them.
Reply:dampin a wash cloth, place in the microwave up to 30 seconds. watch it will be really hot, so take a potholder to get it out. then place on your jaw.

this helped me. since your preggers id ask your doctor about what pain meds you can take or oragel and get your self into the dentist. your teeth might be growing into some other teeth causeing you alot of pain. but in the mean while. do the wash cloth thing. :)
Reply:It sounds as if your wisdom teeth are impacted. You can ease the pain with salt water rinses and over the counter pain reliever. Call your doctor for advice on which to take since you are pregnant. You may also want to read the information here: http://health.yahoo.com/oralcare-overvie...
Reply:IF you are sure this is not an infection that has become an abscess...you may be able to ride it our with cold compress.

Infections in the mouth hurt like heck of course but worse, one does not want them to spread to the jaw bone and then travel to that closer organ...your brain.

I would say go to the dentist and let him or her be the judge for both of your health.

The very best of luck with this and your new family.

When you get wisdom teeth extracted,& it's still numb, is the numbness the only thing stopping the pain?

I got my four impacted teeth out very early this morning and was put to sleep thankfully! I am still numb but I am in absolutely no pain. I still can't feel my jaws, chin or lips, but I also can't feel any pain either. I've been out and about, running errands, shopping, and everything! I might even be attending an event for Valentines day with some friends later...if these ice packs do their job and make the swelling go down. So I was just wondering am I one of the "lucky" ones who don't experience that much pain....or is it too soon to tell? The surgeon wrote me a prescription for 40 Lortab but I haven't even needed them. :-D One thing I do notice is that as the anesthesia is kind of wearing off, it is beginning to hurt when I swallow. Is this normal? I guess i'm just excited because I was expecting the worst, but I feel nothing. Can it be possible to have a pain free wisdom tooth surgery? Especially since mine were impacted, %26amp;one had a bad cavity?

When you get wisdom teeth extracted,%26amp; it's still numb, is the numbness the only thing stopping the pain?
If they were "impacted" it usually is very sore, but everyone is different. I had little to no pain when mine were removed. In fact, I went on stage that evening a few hours after I had them out. My sister was the opposite. She writhed in terrible pain all day. The clot that forms in the "hole" where the tooth is removed, largely determines how much pain there is. If you have a good clot that covers the nerves, you have minimal pain. If the nerves are exposed, without a "cover" than it is horribly painful. Be careful not to chew anything as the dentist told you, so as not to disturb the "clot".

Anything to cut down pain of wisdom teeth coming in?

I think its my wisdom teeth coming in, and it hurts SO bad, and I can't take pain killers because my doc banned me off them to see if thats what is causing my tummy problems. Any ideas?

Anything to cut down pain of wisdom teeth coming in?
No painkillers, ouch. This is not much but oral gel will help some. Sorry to hear about Ur pain.
Reply:Ask your dentist!

For moderate pain, one or two tablets of Tylenol or Extra Strength Tylenol may be taken every three to four hours or Ibuprofen, (Motrin or Advil) two-four 200 mg tablets may be taken every 3-4 hours.

For severe pain, take the tablets prescribed as directed. The prescribed pain medicine will make you groggy and will slow down your reflexes. Do not drive an automobile or work around machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Pain or discomfort following surgery should subside more and more every day. If pain persists, it may require attention and you should call the office.

I'm having the worst pain with my teeth that my doctor worked on months ago.?

i've visted him yesterday and he said that it was the result of my wisdom teeth growing and to take advil to stop the pain. The thing is that Advil onlo wok for about three hours aned then i'm back to the pain again. What should I do?

I'm having the worst pain with my teeth that my doctor worked on months ago.?
I'm afraid the only way is to have them out, i have had this for a year now, and have finally got an appointment in march to have them out, painkillers work for like you said a couple of hours and the pains back, my dentist said it's something called paulpitis where the nerves of the tooth are alive causing the pain then it eases off after two weeks, but a month later it's back, i know what your going through it's agony ask if it will help having them out, good luck
Reply:I remember that pain well. Now you know why babies are so cranky when they are teething! The poor lil peepers! Have you tried taking two Advil? Also try using OraGel on your sore gums. Hot liquids can be soothing as well. Wisdom teeth take forever to come in, just make sure they don't become abscessed.
Reply:Take pain killers

Zoom Teeth Whitening Pain?

I recently went in for the Zoom Whitening System where they put gel on my teeth and sat me under a lamp for three 15 min sessions. The gel got on my lips and gums and I am now suffering with blisters and swelling. I can not brush my teeth. My teeth do not hurt from cold, my gums are just in serious trauma. Please advise...is this normal? Will it subside? Help!

Zoom Teeth Whitening Pain?
You should get at least a partial refund. They did not perform the job as intended. The pain will subside eventually, though the sensitive teeth will take longer probably than the gums, lips. That is ridiculous and I sure hope you go back and let them help you. The dentist should be able to prescribe something for the pain you are experiencing. Call him right now!

P.S. As another posted said, some tooth sensitivity can be expected and experienced. Burned lips and gums are not to be expected and are not normal. You dentist should offer a solution to your pain immediately.

P.S.S. Dentists who are qualified at zoom usually apply a waterproof protectant to gums and surrounding tissue for safety so they do not get burned.
Reply:I would definitely see my dentist as soon as possible. Although it's probably normal if the gel did touch sensitive tissue you could get an infection which could be potentially serious. Your dentist will probably give you some type of ointment for your lips and gums and an antibiotic. I'm serious, see your dentist ASAP.
Reply:No you should not get a partial refund as the first person says. I have been doing Zoom on patients for years and I can tell you first off, the sensitivity is normal. I had my boss do Zoom on me and the sensitivity lasted about 12 hours. Second, the gel, though it is not meant to get on the lips or soft tissue inside the mouth, can cause burning. I am usually very careful when applying the gel, and make sure I block out the gums and cover the rest of the tissue with guaze but some times the block out barrier breaks during the procedure, sometimes because the patient moved their mouth, like if they were stretching, and it doesn't mean that the assistant or the dentist did anything wrong.

The sensitivity will go away. It is normal in any type of bleaching, including and even more so with in office whitening. As far as the blisters and swelling, just rinse with warm salt water if you can stand it, or just give it a chance to go away. It will more than likely go away. I have never had a patient have this problem last for more than a couple of days or so.

Though we do apply a waterproof barrier, it can not hold up to a patient moving their jaw (like they are stretching), trying to talk during the procedure (like I have seen numerous times) or moving their tongue over the teeth. If a patient does any of this (and I am not saying you did) the gel will get on the tissue.

What you are experiencing is normal. Don't worry. It will go away.
Reply:The sensitivity is normal, but could have been controlled if you were given a desensitizing treatment before or after (Sooth Rx works well).

Your gums should have been barriered. I'm sorry Huskey Mom, but I've never seen blisters and swelling on lips and gums from Zoom.

I'm beginning to really dislike Zoom after years of thinking it was a great product. Honestly, I don't see that much difference between Zoom and the take-home trays. For patients who just can't wait, I guess it's an option, but I don't see where the extra cost is worth it.

edited to add: For what it's worth, if you came into my office with blisters after Zoom treatment and asked for a refund, I'd write you a check on the spot. As with all cosmetic procedures, we want you to leave our office smiling and show all your friends how happy you are with our work. The last thing we want is someone showing a mouthful of swollen and sore tissue. Our name on the line and we'd lose far more in potential referrals that we would refunding the price of Zoom treatment.
Reply:i actually had Zoom done on myself a while back, and sometimes even the best assistant cannot try to protect your mouth with the waterproof barrier. Like one comment was made, and not to say you did any of these things, but sometimes the gel will get on your tissue and cause some burning. It happened to me and ended up with a swollen lip. I just ate soft cool foods for a couple days and rinsed with warm salt water. I took some ibuprofen for the swelling. After 2-3 days, i was fine.

So dont worry, it will go away!

Going through the pain of wisdom teeth?

so i've got 3 wisdom teeth that have came through allready, might I had very very painfully. I am now 19 and my last one is coming through and its hurting just as bad as all the other ones. IS there anything i can do to keep it cleaned, i do mouthwash twice a day w/ crest pro health, i just want to keep it from getting infected. Burt i've been through all this 3 times and it lasts about 2 weeks of pain wher eyou can't open your mouth or barelly talk, but i have no insurance and couldnt afford the procedure at the dentist office and i've tried getting help but somehow my husband makes too much by only making 18,000. thanks

Going through the pain of wisdom teeth?
Is there a dental school in your area? Dental schools offer low cost procedures, it's the students that perform the procedures under the supervision of an attending dentist.

You might also check at your local free clinic/hospital for services. Surely as your spouse only makes $18K a year you should qualify for something.
Reply:I had to get all my wisdom teeth, along with all my back molars pulled about 3 years ago (8 teeth). Needless to say, dental insurance just couldn't cover all of it (something like $300 a tooth!). My out of pocket expense was around $1,700. In order to pay for it, I financed it through a company called Care Credit. It's a credit card for health and dental procedures that insurance doesn't cover. I believe it was 0% financing for 6 months, however if it's not paid off in that time frame, the past interest accrues. I would highly suggest looking into that, as it sound like you really need to have all of these teeth removed. I know it's not fun to spend that kind of money, but it's better for your health in the long run.

Good luck.

Any advice for pain after wisdom teeth removal? Pills don't seem to be lasting long enough.?

I had my 2 lower teeth surgically extracted yesterday. They were full impacted. They gave me 5mg Oxycodone. They bottle says 1 every 4-8 hours. I am taking them every four hours but after the third hour I am in excruciating pain again.

What can I do?

Any advice for pain after wisdom teeth removal? Pills don't seem to be lasting long enough.?
Christie (above) is right.

Alternate the Oxycodone with ibuprofen so as to keep daily maiximums of each drug within limits.

i.e. oxycodone, then 3 hours later ibuprofen, then 3 hours later oxycodone again, etc.

You are therefore getting MORE than 4 hours between each dose of the SAME medication.

If this still isn't enough then split them only 2 hours apart., and you will be getting exactly 4 hours apart for each medication.
Reply:Take Tylenol 3. You need a perscription, but for this type of surgery you can usually get it. If not, take Codine or something that contains it.

You definitely should call your doc and tell him about the pain so you can get something stronger..

In terms other ways for pain relief, ice packs worked for me. Try frozen peas or soft ones so you can mold them to the shape of your face.

Nothing will take the pain away fully except time, but this should help! eat ice cream and feel better!
Reply:Try ice. My boyfriend had his out and they said put ice on it.
Reply:use warm salt water and swish it softly around in your mouth. I had a tooth pulled a few weeks ago and pills weren't helping. Make sure not to swish it hard like you would mouthwash so that you don't get dry sockett. Do this every 2 hours, and use a good bit of salt.
Reply:You might have a dry socket. That is where the blood clot falls out of the hole where your tooth was. If that is the case the nerve is not yet dead and is totally exposed to the air creating terrible discomfort. you need to go back to the dentist to get it repacked. The pain should be gone after the first day.
Reply:You do need to call your doctor. He/she may be able to give you something stronger. Also try rinsing with peroxide. It is possible that you have a dry socket, and they are slow healing. If it is a dry socket, only an antibiotic and rinsing with peroxide will help.
Reply:Try taking Advil (ibuprofen) at that 3 hour mark...the 2 drugs can work well together without giving you too much of the Tylenol that's in Oxycodone. Also make sure you have some food in your stomach, the meds are absorbed better and there's less potential for nausea.

Anyone had their other tooth or teeth infected or pain after extraction of an infected tooth?

I had my tooth extracted 2 weeks ago, i have a bit of pain to to the tooth next to it, like its sensative, but not too bad, why is this? can an infection spread to another tooth? what are the complications after extraction, there was pressure applied but what is the worse that can happen to the tooth next it, i state again that im not in agony or anything but its sensative when putting pressure or tapping it, any input plz? thanks.

Anyone had their other tooth or teeth infected or pain after extraction of an infected tooth?
yes, the area can get infected after an extraction - open sore for bacteria to invade. timing probably would have been faster, but it is still possible. see the dentist that did the extraction - follow ups should be included in the origional price.
Reply:I've had something similar. It was "transferred pain". I went to the dentist knowing I had a bad cavity in the tooth. He couldn't find a cavity with x-rays, and it turned out the tooth in question was above it and the pain actually transferred to a bottom healthy tooth. once he filled the cavity all pain disappeared.
Reply:It is important that you take your antibiotic and pain medication as part of your after tooth extraction care. The antibiotic prevents infection of the wound created during your oral surgery and an infection free wound is much more comfortable than one that is infected.

You must return in one or two week for your post operative appointment. To be sure you have healed correctly. Sutures may also need to be removed.

No one wants oral surgery complications but if they do occur you should report them to the dentist immediately.

How can I lessen the pain caused by teeth spacers?

I just had some teeth spacers put in my mouth, 4 on the bottom (2 on each side) and 4 on the top set of teeth (same, 2 on each side). I've taken tylenol but I continue to have a dull ache in my mouth and it is difficult for me to eat as it really hurts my teeth. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to lessen the pain or at least make it more tolerate at the moment while eating, and just in general. Thanks for your help in advance!

How can I lessen the pain caused by teeth spacers?
Tylenol really isn't all that useful for inflammation. Instead, take a dose of ibuprofen (it's ok to take since you're not actually ill). In addition, rinse your mouth with warm salty water to help ease the pain and lessen the swelling. If it gets too bad, contact your dentist or doctor to see if you can get a couple of days' worth of a pain medication. Spacers are miserable, no question, but at least they're only temporary!
Reply:eat very soft foods like mashed taters and a lot of liquids for pain relieving take pain killers such as, Tylenol or Advil
Reply:go to a gnc store or www.gnc.com . look for pure white willow bark. it is the only know pain killer in nature that is non- addictive. i have meds that include this ingridient because of my knees. it's great..... i'm not recomending it, but, one over the counter drug that has it is " stackers 2". you will be gettin a butt load of caffine with those also. i would look into alternatives if thats not something you need.
Reply:go to the dentist and ask him to fix the spacer because it's not suppose to have inflammation
Reply:when I had spacers, I took a good brand of paper towel and rolled it and folded up and stuck one in between the top row and bottom row on each side to bite on and then I used one paper towel split in half and folded it and stuck them inside my jaws and slept like that. The pain wasn't totally gone but I could eat and after about 2 days of that the pain was gone.

Can a large cavity cause pain in the teeth surrounding it?

I have had pain in several teeth in my mouth that no one could give me a straight answer on. The last dentist I went to found a deep cavity in one of my teeth (I have no idea why the other two dentists I went to didn't see this, because you can clearly see it on my tooth)

Can a large cavity cause pain in the teeth surrounding it?
Yes, all the nerves are connected.
Reply:Yes, a large cavity can cause pain in more than one tooth, sometimes even on the total opposite side of your mouth. This is called deferred pain. The nerve that is effected travels along your jaw or cheek, the large cavity and the decay will put pressure on that nerve causing pain in the surrounding teeth. Once the decay is removed, and the nerve has had time to adjust to the loss of the tooth, the pain will go away.
Reply:yes! depending on where the decay is it can effect different teeth. but the teeth on either side would most likely be effected first. the nerves are connected.

you can also get pain on the other side (left/right) even though there isn't a cavity there - referred pain. it shouldn't refer from top to bottom though.
Reply:Yes, especially if that tooth starts to rot.

Question about dry socket causing pain in other teeth?

I visited the OS this morning who told me that what the dentist THOUGHT was a bone fragment in my X-ray is actually dead tissue from having dry socket. He packed it and sent me on my way.

I did ask him if this dry socket is causing me to have pain in my other teeth- the answer was yes, but he did not have time to talk.

My question is: How can the dry socket in my right lower side (from wisdom tooth extraction) be causing my other teeth to hurt? It is weird because the opposite side of my mouth (namely my very back molars) are very sensitive and painful.

Thanks for your help.

Question about dry socket causing pain in other teeth?
I read somewhere online (can't find it now, sorry) that it causes pain in other parts of the mouth because it's 'referred pain" Basically, the way I understood it is, that the pain is a different pain that our body is not used to feeling because it's such a deep pain and stems from the bone being exposed. The brain doesn't know how to handle this pain signal so it can send out other pain signals.
Reply:The pain will actually seem to radiate through your jaw, making it seem like the other teeth are hurting.

Best over the counter pain relief for teeth?

I just had my wisdom teeth out, the tylonel 3 they gave me doesnt help with pain and makes me a bit neautious.

What type of over the counter pain reliever is best (if its blood thinning will it interfere with the blood clots that have to be there because of the wisdom teeth removal? I thought tylonol was blood thining so why would they give me tylonel 3?)

Best over the counter pain relief for teeth?
Ibuprofen is also very good for dental pain, being both a pain killer and an anti-inflammatory, and it does not cause blood thinning. Tylenol can cause very slight blood thinning, but only if taken at very high doses regularly. Aspirin is the major over the counter pain killer that causes blood thinning, so that would be the one for you to avoid. Also ice packs, or bags of frozen peas, can help with the pain and swelling.
Reply:The best pain reliever for mouth pain that I have ever used is Advil. I have used it after mouth surgery twice, and after root canals...I swear by it!!

I have wear on 4 teeth on left of my mouth from grinding and pain on two teeth should I have them polished?

I am 24 I have wear on the left of my mouth (on 4 teeth from grinding). I noticed most of the pressure of my bite and Ive been told is on the left side of my mouth. So in other words when I bite down on the left side of my mouth all my teeth strike while on the right side of my mouth when I bite down all the way not many of my top and bottom teeth actually touch each other. Last October I used crest whitestrips and then I started clenching very badly without knowing. When I bite down my left center tooth and my left eye tooth have always struck each other (at least after I had braces 5 years ago). But now that I have this sensitivity to pressure....When I bite down all the way, these two teeth strike the bottom teeth and when they do it creates bad pain. My dentist can polish the back so that they no longer strike. He said he's done it for others and it solves the issue caused by them striking each other and therefore the healing process begins. Is this is a good idea?

I have wear on 4 teeth on left of my mouth from grinding and pain on two teeth should I have them polished?
I have a night gaurd that my dentist had given me to not grin my teeth. You can ask you dentist to make you a night gaurd to protect your teeth not to were off.

How long does the pain from wisdom teeth extraction last for afterwards?

hi, i actually just got my wisdom teeth out today! it wasnt as bad as i thought too. b/f going into it, the thing i worried about most was anesthesia as i have never been put to sleep before/dont know what it's like, but it happened so quick, so i'm fine. when i got home my cheeks were puffy and it was hard to eat even soft foods. my tongue felt like it was huge and heavy. then i put on ice packs for a few hours and the puffy cheeks went away. my mouth right now feels funny, but not extremely painful. and it is a little bit easier, but not easy, to eat. so i have a question for you that have had wisdom teeth extractions and remember a day by day thing. how many days after the first day will the pain last? does it get any worse than the first day? does it become easier to eat/brush your teeth? can someone, preferably a dentist or dental assistant or such, please tell me. thanks

How long does the pain from wisdom teeth extraction last for afterwards?
I had my two bottom wisdom teeth pulled a while back and if your not in a lot of pain now, its only going to get better. They gave you some Vicodin right? just take that until you feel like you can be OK without them. After like three days you should be able to eat normal food again. If you have any concerns about it, all you have to do is call up your dentist and ask them about it. they will gladly help ya.
Reply:It takes a couple of days for the pain to leave. You would have to clean it out with salt water to quicken the healing process and to stop the bleeding.
Reply:I had all 4 removed w/ compaction and let me tell you, no fun! I believe it was months before my mouth felt normal again, but as for actual pain no more than 2 weeks. Take your medicines as prescribed and you'll be fine!
Reply:only tree to four days lessening with each day. do not smoke or drink from a straw which could cause dry socket and it is very painful plus no oral sex!
Reply:it gets easier after the first day, but the pain doesn't go away for a week or 2. stick with stuff like apple sauce and mashed potatoes for a few days
Reply:I can tell you from Experience that the Second day is the worst so make sure you have you're pain killers handy. Also after three days it should be okay.
Reply:For me? the pain wasn't so bad. I was numb for a long time and even did laundry three hours after the sugery! It all depends on your threshold for pain and also if you are getting all of them pulled or one at a time, because I got all of them pulled and did just fine. The pain will be bearable after three or four days, the worst pain I felt was a week later when I accidently tugged on a stitch! Ouch! You'll prob. be fine tho. Best wishes!
Reply:It only hurts for a couple of days maybe 2 or 3 at the most maybe a week at the most.
Reply:It depends on the extraction. I had all four teeth out at once and I was in agony for a month afterwards. The surgeon also dislocated my jaw under anaesthetic, so eating was difficult for about 2 weeks.

I found that the first and second days afterwards were OK as there are still some painkillers in your system from the op, but the next week was agony for me, as I had a lot of bone removed too.

The swelling started to subside after two weeks of being a chipmunk, but the bruising that started after one day lasted for 6 weeks.

Hope you have better luck that me!

Normal for pain after wisdom teeth removal to be wose on one side?

Hey, I had my wisdom teeth removed today, and the pain (normal pain, not dry socket) is worse on the right side of my mouth than on the left. Is this normal?

Normal for pain after wisdom teeth removal to be wose on one side?
It depends. Maybe the position of the wisdom tooth on the right side was in a more difficult angle for the oral surgeon to get to. Was your wisdom tooth one the right side impacted if so that could be the main reason. Two extra strength Tylenol or better yet Advil should do the trick if it doesn't then you should call the oral surgeon's office and have them prescribe some Vicodin or Tylenol 3 which has coedine in it that should help with the pain. As for tonight keep your head elevated with 2 or more pillows, don't smoke if you do, don't spit and put ice or frozen veggies on your extraction sites in 15 minute intervals that should keep you comfy till morning. Good luck.
Reply:Sure. Maybe it was in a worse position and required more surgery...
Reply:My husband and two friends had impacted wisdom teeth removed and the pain was on all four, I don't think it was different on one than the others. Didn't you get pain pills? Your dentist should have given you something strong eg. Oxycodone or Demerol or Tylenol 3 or 4 with codeine at least.
Reply:It might have been slightly more difficult on the other side. Its no fun having wisdom teeth out, I've has two extracted. Try taking ibuprofen, ( not aspirin ) for the pain.
Reply:yup~

My teeth hurt and i need advice! and my filling is coming off along with/ 1 tooth has a sharp pain?

i only have one sharp pain in 1 tooth!

INFO: alright i dont have dental insurance and so we went to the top of the line dentist clinic in MEXICO!!! no i never ever want to go there agian!! this is because the dentist fixed and filled 4 TEETH. i had 3 cavities and had to be filled with some white filling.

BAD THINGS: my teeth feel like the are uneven 2 molars on my right are slightly higher that the molars to the left.

THE PAIN is on my top molar to the left and somehow it came out CRACKED!!! i dont know why but i had it like that for my whole life and she filed it (like your nails) and filled the outside with white filling.

So is it normal for some of the fillings to crack off to fit and are ALL THE FILLINGS LIKE THAT??

and why does my top molar hurt so bad i want to cry?? is it a nerve because the top has a sharp pain on the TOOTH every time i touch it soft. will it go away??

thank you for reading and any answers will help

My teeth hurt and i need advice! and my filling is coming off along with/ 1 tooth has a sharp pain?
this is what it sounds like:

1. your teeth were overfilled on one side, which is misaligning your bite. you need to have the overfilled teeth grinded down to match the other teeth.

2. A cracked filling will likely become infected and need a root canal. If it's not infected, maybe you can get a sealant put over it to cover the crack.

3. The top molar might hurt if the dentist overdrilled the tooth. I had very painful dental pain from a filling and when i went for a 2nd opinion, it turned out the filling was pressing on a nerve so i was in chronic pain.

I ended up with chronic earaches, sinus infection, dizziness, and later on, an abscess in my gum thanks to my dentist's mistake.

If you can't go to the dentist, try calling your local dental school and they can help you out or offer some resource.
Reply:going to the dentist may take out a big chunk of money but it is definently worth it

i had a similar problem and i needed a root canal

i suggest you see the dentist
Reply:You may have an infection (sounds like it). Maybe you could google for a dental clinic, teaching school, and get some adequate help. There are also agencies that may help, but better to go in debt than to die.
Reply:Most cities have what they call free clinics that help uninsured people, low income, etc. I would check to see if you are eligible for that...if not, then you're either gonna have to fork out some money for the dentist...or suffer.
Reply:Go to the drug store and get some Colgate prexoyl and rinse with that until Monday if its not better by then get to the dentist and get help before you get into trouble.
Reply:go straight to your dentist and they will fix the problem because if you dont it could possibly turn into something major!
Reply:It actually sounds like the piece of filling that cracked off might have been "flash", or some extra, uneeded filling material. If the fillings they did were too tall, your bite will be off and the tooth can feel bruised and sore like you described. You need to have the fillings adjusted so that they are not uneven on the chewing surfaces. ALso, if you don't feel a hole where the piece of filling came off, I would assume that it was an extra piece. Good luck, and call your local health depatrment for a referral to a dentist or clinic with affordable or reduced dental care, every county has a list of those.
Reply:i will say what you already know to be true. go to a dentist who has an in house dendal plan so you can pay over time. western dental is one such place. you need to do something soon for your own health. decide. do.
Reply:Long question. LOL. I am sorry you are experiencing so much pain! Ok....

It is not normal for "good" fillings to crack off. Are you sure it wasn't part of your actual tooth that cracked off, if so that is probably why you are experiencing pain. I am not sure why you are experiencing so much pain, only x rays %26amp; a pulp test would be able to tell if nerve damage was present though.

Also, a possible reason that some of your teeth feel higher than the others is probably because when the dentist filled your teeth, they didn't file the filling off to match the surface of your tooth on the high side.

I recommend that you see another dentist in the United States. If you don't have dental insurance, you could probably do a payment plan with your dentist or, you could call a local dental school and make an appointment. They are always needing patients there as well.
Reply:Call the colleges in your area ask about dental schools . my wife has good work done there
Reply:I can't believe I'm suggesting this... since money is an issue, you may want to go to one of the dental colleges. I've went there and had some good work done...and also had some really bad experiences. The trick is to make sure the supervising doctor checks the work carefully. Remember that these are students your dealing with and they don't know anything, no matter what they say. If you're worried about how good the supervising dentist is, request another. The cost is a lot cheaper.

How can I relieve the pain of wisdom teeth coming in?

My dentist said that I need to get my wisdom teeth out, but there is no rush because there is plenty of room and everything looks fine. Well, one tooth came through about 4 months ago and it hurt a little bit. Now, that tooth has come in even more and it punctured the lining of my cheek. There is a constant dull ache, and a sharp pain whenever I yawn or spit. What can I do to dull this pain until I can get it pulled? The reason I haven't done it yet is that it's hard to find a decent time to take off from my job.

How can I relieve the pain of wisdom teeth coming in?
Try sucking ice, eating cold oranges from the fridge, ice cream, cold grapes, any thing cold will numb it and bring down any swelling. Also try a NSAID such as asprin, Aleve or ibprofen.
Reply:You could see about getting some pain pills. You could use ambesol on the area itself. Try eating soft foods and try not to chew too much back there
Reply:dentist will remove your teeth to remove the pain....only way
Reply:I had this exact same pain with my wisdom teeth. This is the exact reason they need to come out! I would contact your dentist to get referred to a good oral surgeon. The surgeon can set up the tooth extraction, and prescribe a pain killer for you.

Here is the good news - with the exception of the first 4 hours after surgery, the pain my wisdom teeth caused prior to surgery was far worse than anything after.

Teeth/Jaw pain more than a week after removal of two wisdom teeth.?

The hole in my back tooth is closing up gradually, but the 2 or 3 teeth right next to the pulled tooth hurts when I bite down %26amp; it seems like the whole jaw hurts some. It sometimes even seems to hurt up to the ear %26amp; down my neck!

It's not like it hurts too bad. It's just that I expected day 8 to hurt less than day 2!

I've been taking my anti-biotics.

Is this normal?

Teeth/Jaw pain more than a week after removal of two wisdom teeth.?
perhaps the tooth that was extracted took the grunt of all your forces. now that it is gone, the teeth in front of it are now doing all the work.

Or... there can be other problems (cavities) or occlusion or alignment problem

Sometimes, it is hard to explain and will go away on its own.

Reply:Every person is different, but don't forget that the wisdom teeth are in the bone, that is why they hurt more when either coming down or being extracted. The dentist should have given you some mild pain killers too. If they didn't then ask the chemist for a mild preparation with paracetamol and codeine in it. It is not really recommended to have aspirin as this will thin the blood and you may start bleeding again if the hole is still open. If it has closed completely then aspirin will dramatically improve the pain because of it's blood thinning qualities as it will allow the blood to flow more freely around the site of extraction.

If the pain is excruciating, then try these few things too....

rub the thumb on the same side as where the tooth was removed, swill some Listerine around the area, apply ome bonjela, gargle some apple cider vinegar, warm salty water or Chlorohexedine. Apply a heat or cold pack, whichever feels the best.

If the pain still persists, then I would suggest going back to the dentist just to make sure that all is fine.

Hope this helps and have a great day/night!!!

Reply:HELLO,

NEVER, EVER TAKE ASPIRIN AFTER A TOOTH EXTRACTION. ASPIRIN IS A BLOOD THINNER AND THE LAST THING YOU NEED WITH AN EXTRACTIONS A BLOOD THINNER. SINCE BEEN SOME TIME AFTER THE EXTRACTIONS YOU NEED WARM MOIST HEAT APPLIED TO THE JAW WHERE IT HURTS AS WELL AS IBUPROFEN (AKA, ADVIL) FOR THE SWELLING.
Reply:Only have your wisdom teeth removed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeron. There are many complications of wisdom teeth surgery, and to find out more on complications and oral surgery go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/

Pain in lower teeth after running?

I'm usually a fitness walker and I'm trying to progress to running. When ever I run I can feel a dull pain in my lower, front teeth gum line. Is this normal and what is it?

Pain in lower teeth after running?
No, it's not normal and I have never heard of that happening to someone while running. I think I would call your Dr or Dentist. only thing I can think of is maybe when you are running you hold your jaw stiff, but I then don't think the pain would be in the gum line. I hope you leave a message as to what it was once you find out
Reply:I have the same thing happen to me. The pain is excruciating enough that it prevents me from running at all. It is definitely a dull pain around the gum line, but my teeth actually HURT. Like someone is pulling each one of them out.

My dad is a dentist, and he can't seem to figure it out either. Report It

Pain after wisdom teeth!!?

2 weeks ago, i had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled. And I am getting gum swelling and pain on my left side of my jaw... Called the Doctor-- havent heard back- should I be worried?

Pain after wisdom teeth!!?
you might have an infection on the left side of your mouth, then again it might still be healing call the doctor and make another appt. for him/her to check it out
Reply:No, don't worry. Every persons' symptoms are different after pulling teeth, but it's normal to have pains. Take some advil or ibueprofen.

Good luck, and feel better.
Reply:Only on your left side? Swelling is normal for a couple of days to 1 1/2 weeks... but it helps to visit the doctor who did it. You can take pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs for the mean time if you are not allergic...

Terrible pain in my teeth after running! why?

i have started running in the mornings and i get a terrible pain in my teeth, when ever i'm out of breath this starts to happen, does anybody know why. i'm 24, dont want false teeth just yet.

Terrible pain in my teeth after running! why?
Stop running on your face.

2. sinus infection
Reply:Could it be your teeth are sensetive to the cold air you are breathing in as you run?
Reply:Nasal infection?
Reply:Maybe your teeth are sensitive and the wind agitates them and makes them hurt. Try using toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth.
Reply:Sounds like neuralgia, probably caused by the cold. Nothing to do with the actual teeth but the facial nerves.
Reply:HERE IS ONE OPINION

"I thought I was the only runner with a sore mouth. For a day or two after an ultra, the roof of my mouth hurts whenever I eat. "

This used to be a problem for me after most very long runs or ultras. It is primarily caused by inhaling/exhaling a large volume of air over the hours, resulting in dehydration of the mouth. My dentist also noted that the same thing can happen to the teeth, making them more sensitive to hot and cold for 24 hours or so. I really noticed sensitive teeth after running the Steamboat Marathon when the air temperature was in the 70s while the dew point was only 16F - very dry air.

What has worked for me to eliminate the sore mouth is to carry fluids in a bottle and drink a small amount every 8-10 minutes. I think it also helps that the sports drink I use has a small amount of fat in it (MCT) and that puts a thin layer of fat on the tissues, slowing evaporation from them. I've had no instances of "sore mouth" since using that type of drink.
Reply:I worked as a dental nurse for 5 yrs and have came across this problem myself. Have you had a cold recently? Usually this problem occurs when your sinuses are blocked and when you walk or run your teeth feel as if they are going to fall out! This is because of the pressure, go to your dentist to get them checked to be on the safe side incase there are any underlying problems but usually blocked sinus' are to blame.
Reply:you have sensitive teeth. try breathing in through nose and out through your mouth.
Reply:Your teeth could be a little sensitive . You are probably getting the cold wind in your face and it causing them to ache try protect your face with either a scarf or hat .
Reply:The next time you run, pay attention to what you are doing with your jaws. Try to relax your facial muscles. If you are clenching your back teeth too much as you run, you will get a pain in your back teeth.
Reply:Look where your going.
Reply:it might be where its cold at the moment darling i reckon it will stop wants it warms up best the luck with your running darling
Reply:try breathing through your nose, it's probably because have sensitive teeth and that breathing in cold air aggravates it more....try putting a scarf round your face when out running, help minimise the exposure to cold air

Gum pain where wisdom teeth use to be?

I have a small swollen point in my gum. It's on my lower jaw, where my wisdom tooth use to be (they were removed 2 years ago). It's painful and I think it's a gum infection. What are the symptoms of a gum infection? What are the treatments? How can I have healthier teeth? I brush and floss and use floride rinse but I still always have problems with cavaties and i'm afraid of dentists. I have made an appointment with a dentist for my gum pain but i'm just wondering what the problem is and what he'll most likely do for it. Thanks!

Gum pain where wisdom teeth use to be?
sounds like a part, very small part of your tooth may have survived the extraction. It happened to me, and the oral surgeon went back and took it out without charge. good luck.

Real pain in the teeth.?

I have never had this problem before, but the whole left side of my bottom teeth hurt like hell. Everything from the gums to the top of the teeth. I can't close my mouth because it send shocks of pain, and I can't eat. What could be the problem?

Real pain in the teeth.?
If it is the whole side and the gums and the teeth hurt as well, you either have a really bad infection in one on the teeth. Wiggle each tooth to see if one is worse than the other. If not you have a sinus problem, probably either an infection or you are allergic to something and are having the reaction and your sinus cavities are filling up with gunk (thats a technical term)Taking an over the counter pill may help such as drixoral, or benadryl or there are a ton to choose from. Drixoral is my favorite one that is over the counter. You want the one that looks like a green M%26amp;M. It will help you sleep.
Reply:try going to the dentist it could be a cavity or you might need a root canal. Take some pain relievers for now and eat soft foods and make a dentist appt now

Good luck
Reply:Probably just a regular toothache
Reply:Well it could be a number of things such as a new tooth coming in that has not enough room could be putting pressure on a nerve. Maybe a wisdom tooth or molar depending on you age. Abscess could do this possibly too. You may have decay or a cracked tooth and Xray will show more than you could see on your own. If you took a blow to the area you could have some damage that may have taken a bit to become painful.

You should have a dentist check you out. Use something for the pain like Tylenol and try to see a professional as soon a possible.
Reply:Time for the tooth to be gone, gingevitis (don't know know if i spelled it right, but it's a gum disease), or yoru wisdom teeth is growing!

How really to bear pain after my teeth impaction operation?
well, when I had my impacted wisdom teeth pulled I was not given a prescription pain killer. I just took a shot of whiskey and two aspirins once or twice a day for several days. It didn't kill the pain completely, but it helped.

But if you have a prescription, then maybe that's as effective as my remedy.

Can severe pain cause your teeth to "chatter"?

I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and was in severe pain today, despite taking regular doses of pain killers. The pain was so severe my teeth started to "chatter" like they do when you are cold/shivering (I was not cold). Can this "chattering" be caused by the severe pain?

Can severe pain cause your teeth to "chatter"?
Yes, its very common for muscles all over your body to "shiver" while youre in severe pain. Your adrenaline levels were probably very high.
Reply:My teeth chatter when Im in pain too. Whether it's Moderate to Severe...I sit there with my eyes tightly shut and my teeth chattering.
Reply:Yes, this can occur from severe pain. I would also recommend asking your doctor for a referral to a Pain Management doctor that has experience with chronic pain as a result of female problems like endometriosis to see what other suggestions they have that might help you with your pain.
Reply:Yep, that can happen. It's like your muscles tighten up but are trying to relax and you just chatter. If your meds weren't helping or weren't enough you'd better call your Doc ASAP. If it happens again please go to the ER and don't suffer through it.

Intermittent throbbing pain. post- wisdom teeth removal?

Just a little background before I describe the problem.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia. The surgery was painless, other than the fact that Ihad lot of swelling and muscle tightness on one side and could hardly eat for a week. In 2-3 weeks, the swelling has subsided completely, eating is back to normal. Now the problem.

2 weeks after my surgery, I started going to the gym and that is when I discovered that any kind of aerobic exercise (treadmill, elliptical trainer etc.) starts a throbbing pain on the upper side (of the side which had the swelling the first week). Initially I thought, that was because I was trying to run. The next day, I noticed that the throbbing pain shows up even when I do a brisk walk...I usually walk fast. I don't have any pain otherwise, have followed all post surgery instructions and am wondering why do I get the pain? Should I go back to the oral surgeon for a check? Please help. Thanks.

Intermittent throbbing pain. post- wisdom teeth removal?
When you exercise there's a tendency to clinch your mouth. This could be causing pressure on the surgery area hence the pain. observe your mouth during exercise And try to keep it slack. See if this helps.

if this doesn't help you should go back to the oral surgeon.

best wishes,

Question about pain with wisdom teeth.?

I have impacted wisdom teeth and have a a lot of pain lately, the problem is i cant get them out for another 2 months. If i am feeling pain right now and wait two months will there be any damaged caused? Because if i'm feeling pain something must be going on... I just want to make sure it will be ok to wait the two months. also the dentist took xrays and said if i didnt get them removed they would cause my other teeth to move, can it do this in just two months?

Question about pain with wisdom teeth.?
I would recommend you go to an oral surgeon to have these teeth removed. Is it your choice to wait 2 months, or can you not get an appointment? Yes, your wisdom teeth can actually shift your other teeth. They can cause an infection, or even damage to your adjacent teeth. Sooner is better than later, especially since you are hurting.
Reply:Why don't you just find a dentist who can do it sooner?
Reply:Whats happening is your teeth are trying to come in through the bone. It's okay to wait 2 months, if they move otehr teeth in the mean time, it's okay, as soon as they are removed the other teeth will fall into place. Chances are in 8 weeks your teeth won't move THAT much.

I would take advil or motrin to deal with the pain until then.
Reply:I don't think there will be any damage. Maybe the tooth is making sure that its fully in its place. Ouch! I hope my advice helps! :)

Pain in the teeth?

Well about a week and a half ago i was playing softball and got hit in the face. It was in the lower nose/ upper lip region. I had massive swelling and a big cut on my lip(which are both gone now). But the weirdest thing happens when i move my nose! If i am blowing my nose or like scratching it get pain in my 2 front teeth and the oddest part is depending on which way i move the cartillige; thats the tooth that hurts. Push it left, left front tooth and vise versa.

Thanks for the help

Pain in the teeth?
Maybe you need a root canal? I fell a fews years ago and cut my face in the same spot... turned out the fall also "killed" my tooth... and I had to have a root canal... it helped TREMENDOUSLY!:) (and you couldn't really tell there was a problem by looking at my front teeth... I just had pain when (like you said) I moved my gums or face in certain ways...)

Good luck, hope you figure it out...:)
Reply:This could be a potentially serious problem so read carefully. If you put your finger on the gums above your teeth is there a small bump or squishy lump? If there is that could be a blood clot or bruise under the gums. Both of those are serious and you should see a doctor or dentist about it as soon as possible. Getting hit above the mouth is always bad as there is allot of bacteria that is in the mouth so it is prone to infection. Id advise going to the doctor as i cannot supply that much help not being able to see it. A number of things can be wrong so i would not wait to go to the doctor, any sharp pain that jumps from one part of the body to another is always something and should be checked out. Good Luck!

depends on how your teeth are? did thety come in straight or are they all sideways and stuff? my teeth came in straight so i didn't have that much pain (they were ALL impacted) and i really didnt have pain. i made the mistake of taking the painkillers they prescribed the first day and threw up all day.
Reply:Calm down Tiger!! You will only need a few prescription painkillers. After that Advil will be fine.

Odd pain, long after teeth removed..?

Alright, I'm 25, and have had all my teeth out, its been over a year I think now, and I've had my permenant(until I get implants anyway) dentures for a good while. they do need to be relined though, and its been longer than it should, but I'm not sure if that matters on this.

before I had my teeth out, the K9 teeth were relatively prominent, and sometimes if I pressed on them it would have a funny unpleasant feeling like... deep, next to the nose, sort of.

the last day or two I've noticed an odd pain in that vicinity again... but... only when I shake my head, or like the other night I bumped it on the headboard a little (not hard, this weird pain was more than the actual bump) and it felt sorta like an almost wiggle? its definitely not excruciating or anything, just... not very pleasant. and sorta disturbing.

(continuing in added, with something else thats possibly relevant)

Odd pain, long after teeth removed..?
It sounds like you may possibly have something such as a sinus infection, possibly in communication (e.g. via fistula) with your extraction site. Also possible that there is a communication into you mouth. As with all possible infections, you should have this examined by a dentist or oral surgeon as soon as possible. I would call their number; if they are unable to see you soon, they may prescribe antibiotics. But you should have it looked at. Take care.
Reply:ever hear of a phantom limb? Basically an amputee, %26lt;someone who has lost a arm or leg%26gt; might have pain from the MISSING limb. This is possible due to neurons that fire in the brain can not make fast adjustments. %26lt;fires together- wires together%26gt;

the nerve endings that housed your teeth remember pain that they once felt, an I believe you may be having "phantom pain" from the sockets were the nerve endings are trying to feel the bad tooth, expecting to feel pain, but when it don't --it simulates it with the brain-- which is already is hard wired to receive pain signals from that location.

when a amputee complains about phantom pain the solution they receive is to rub the nerve ending that are receiving the pain signal. however in your case, oral pain I believe that a hair dryer aimed at your open mouth would be the best solution for pain. That solution also works wonders on bad teeth, to alleviate the pain--temporally. but it does work.

wisdom teeth could cause this pain as well if you have not had them removed already they come in between the ages of 16-24 normally, and typically need to be removed.

if you feel congested, sinuses plugged, feeling, cant breathe Thu nose, then you may want to think about clearing that up, perhaps with a doctors assistance if infection is present.

my bets are on the phantom pain though.

good luck
