Swollen Gums and Pain behind wisdom teeth?

Well, I have had slight pain from behind my wisdom tooth, specifically on the gums, on the right side for about a week, however I woke up today and the pain although not a constant pain does not allow me to swallow or bite anything if I open my jaw to much, pretty much and slight movement really hurts. Now, I first got my wisdom teeth at the age of 15 and am now 19 and have never had any real problems with pain such as this, even when my wisdom teeth were coming in. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or any idea as to what may be causing it? What should I do? Should I visit my dentist about this?

*note: i do have an a-symmetrical jaw. don't know if that may help or not.

Sounds like you have an infection in your gums. If you have dental insurance go to the dentist, if you don't go to the doctor. You need to be on an antibiotic if you want the pain to go away. Try swishing your mouth with warm salt water every four hours in the meantime to help with the pain.
Reply:You should go to ur dentist and have them remove it before it gets worse...i had one of my wisdom tooths removed because it was veeerrrryy painful..it felt like someone was hitting me in the face with hammer at full force like knocking in a nail...i think the cause is that its time for it to come out, thats the only thing i can think of or it make be infected which is why the swollen has occured!! getting pain killers wont last trust me i tried that!!! go get it checked out it wont take up that much time :)
Reply:This condition is called pericoronitis....which basically means that you have an inflammation in the gums from your wisdom tooth...the only way to treat this is to have the tooth removed. Treating the symptoms will not resolve the issue.
