How can I relieve the pain of wisdom teeth coming in?

My dentist said that I need to get my wisdom teeth out, but there is no rush because there is plenty of room and everything looks fine. Well, one tooth came through about 4 months ago and it hurt a little bit. Now, that tooth has come in even more and it punctured the lining of my cheek. There is a constant dull ache, and a sharp pain whenever I yawn or spit. What can I do to dull this pain until I can get it pulled? The reason I haven't done it yet is that it's hard to find a decent time to take off from my job.

Try sucking ice, eating cold oranges from the fridge, ice cream, cold grapes, any thing cold will numb it and bring down any swelling. Also try a NSAID such as asprin, Aleve or ibprofen.
Reply:You could see about getting some pain pills. You could use ambesol on the area itself. Try eating soft foods and try not to chew too much back there
Reply:dentist will remove your teeth to remove the pain....only way
Reply:I had this exact same pain with my wisdom teeth. This is the exact reason they need to come out! I would contact your dentist to get referred to a good oral surgeon. The surgeon can set up the tooth extraction, and prescribe a pain killer for you.

Here is the good news - with the exception of the first 4 hours after surgery, the pain my wisdom teeth caused prior to surgery was far worse than anything after.
