Can tooth pain radiate to other teeth??

I had a cavity filled in an upper molar 2 months ago. The cavity was near the root, between two molars. It troubled me before it was filled but the pain afterwards was much worse!

Now, 2 months later I%26#039;m still in pain. Drinking something hot is painful, the pain lingers for several minutes. I%26#039;m pretty sure I will need a root canal. But now, other molars on the same side of the mouth are starting to hurt. Even some in my lower jaw!

Do I need the dentist check these molars out or can the pain from the infected tooth radiate to other teeth?

Two of the other molars that are bothering me are wisdom teeth. They are completely erupted and have been there for almost 15 years. Therefore, according to my dentist, it is not possible that they will play up now? Is this true? They have no cavities or fillings, yet they hurt (a lot)! Or is this referred pain?

(Please forgive me if my English is not always correct, I am not a native speaker).

Yes, you are correct, this is called referred pain ( to some extent) The nerve that supplies blood to the tooth that is giving you grief also supplies the blood to the adjacent teeth as well. If that tooth is sensitive to hot and it is lingering, chances are really good you will need to have a root canal.

You can try some Sensodyne toothpaste. Rub a thin layer on the area that is giving you the grief and let it sit, don%26#039;t rinse it off. It is best to try this at night before you go to bed. It may not help, but anything is worth a try.

Do you have any other areas of recession? This can also cause sensitivity to the teeth in the same area or other areas, but yes, referred pain can affect not only the teeth in the same quadrant but also the opposing quadrant (upper and lower teeth).

Good luck, and your English is better than mine and I have lived here all my life :o)
Reply:Better check with the dentist. Layman%26#039;s opinions are worthless.
Reply:the nerves in the teeth are inter-linked. You may feel pain in one tooth but it is the tooth beside it that is actually defective. Trust me.....I have had this happen. This is why it can seem like the pain is spreading. Just get your dentist to look at them all using x-rays as well as a viual inspection. It sounds like that first tooth was not fixed 100%
Reply:Yes the pain can radiate to other teeth I had a tooth on top that need a root canal and the pain from that tooth was even radiating to my lower jaw and after I had the root canal all of the pain went away.
Reply:yes it can its what they call reffered pain coz it really depends on the nerve supply to that tooth look at it like this one nerve can supply like 4 teeth so 1 may pain but the others will feel it so referred pain
Reply:Definitely get your wisdom teeth pulled. I had all four of mine pulled at once. The wisdom teeth were pushing all my teeth together and giving me headaches. You probably have an infection in your molars. But this time, I would go to a different dentist.
Reply:Hmmm... I strongly recommend you to order an absolutely free an anaesthetic on http://rds.Yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu8RcRwVHpn... - (find there a special offers)

With the best regards, Jessica Barton.
