Wisdom teeth pain extraction at least a week away?

My wisdom teeth are causing me a great deal of pain on one side of my mouth. I have already spoken to a dentist, but I need a referral first. I have the exam/referral scheduled for Tuesday, and then who knows how long til they are actually pulled. One of them has a cavity because it was covered by gum for so long and I couldn%26#039;t get to the tooth to brush it. The other one on that side is coming in and is causing pain. Orajel only dulls the pain for maybe 10 minutes and 2 tablets of extra strength Tylenol only helps for about an hour. What can I do? It keeps me up at night. I finally get to sleep, but when my 10 month old wakes up, after he is taken care of, it takes me a long time to get back to sleep again because of the pain. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Wow, you must be tired. Use %26#039;Motrin%26#039; its great and recommended for inflammation anywhere in the body. The dentist can give you a higher dose then otc. Mine gave me 500mg script, when my wisdom teeth were a problem. Best to have some food or milk with that much, ok. I feel for ya, its one of the worst pains.
Reply:If you not allergic, ibuprofen works much better than Tylenol but don%26#039;t take more than 800mgs and take it with food. Usually the tablets you get over the counter are 200mg each be sure to read the bottle to see how many mg is in each pill.
Reply:I used to take at least 4, 200 milligram Advil when I was in severe pain......but, if you talk to the dental office manager you should be able to get in sooner as an emergency. I wouldn%26#039;t be that patient and wait a week in your condition.

Good luck, sweetie!
Reply:In the event of an emergency, I believe you do not have to have a referral. When my wisdom teeth were growing in, I was in excruciating pain. I called a dentist over the weekend, and he came in with a nurse at 8PM and pulled out my wisdom tooth. That%26#039;s an emergency.

Most dentists, if you call them after hours, have a number you can call to reach the dentist directly. Try that. And, I had never been to this dentist before. I called him, and he was just coming home from a skiing trip, and he drove straight to his office. Of course, I had to make a 30 minute trip to his office, but, it was WELL worth it. If you have to, call a dentist and see if he can come in for an emergency extraction.

Good luck. Wisdom teeth suck!
Reply:I had the same problem. Eventually, jaw, ear, and head aches. Worse was when it woke me up in the middle of the night. I called my dentist and told her what was happening. She told me to come in and wrote me a prescription for Ibuprofen. It really helped me make it till I could get all 4 out with the oral surgeon. They do sell lower doses at the drugstore. Ask the pharmacist there what they recommend too. Call your doc and see if they can see you sooner. If it%26#039;s infected, they%26#039;ll give you antibiotics and/or pain meds if not. Good luck!
