the dentist say it was my wisdom teeth that is causing the pain.so i told him to pull it out.which he did but my teeth still hurt.especially after i drink water

Reply:Cloves.....really. It's an old wives remedy , but it works. Place whole cloves on your gums next to the affected area. It does relieve pain temporarily. Make sure you see a dentist soon. Your teeth and gums are not something you should ignore!
Reply:Usually 800mg of ibuprofen helps, but if you can't get a perscription take 3 Advil. Avoid extremly hot and cold beverages and brush your teeth with a paste such as Sensodine.
I feel for you, I'd rather have a butt whooping than a toothache.
Reply:These are pretty drastic, but...
rinse your mouth with rubbing alcohol or vodka or rum. Dont swallow the rubbing alcohol! Try to hold it in your mouth for as long as you can stand it.
Another drastic one is to rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide, but again, DON'T SWALLOW IT!!! You'll also want to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after that one.

My jaw clicks when i open wide and now I'm having pain on my teeth are they related? can a mouthguard help?
my jaw has been clicking for about 3 years now. I went to the dentist and it turns out it's because my jaw isn't aligned correctly so I got a $500 splint. I started wearing it and it made no difference because it was made incorrectly. so for about a year i ignored the pain and now its come back. I sometimes grind my teeth at night and I don't know if this is why i now have pain in both my teeth and my jaw. I was thinking of getting a mouthguard from the pharmacy, could this help.

Massive pain in head, ears, teeth after running, bike riding, any type of hard exercise?
For as long as I can remember I've always gotten really bad headaches when I run, ride a bike, or swing dance (any really hard type of exercise). I can't even run to the end of my block without it happening. The pain goes from the back of my head, down through my ears, to my teeth. It hurts so bad I can't do anything but sit there until it goes away, I can't even open my mouth to talk because the air on my teeth causes even worse pain. The pain only last for about 5 to 10 minutes and then I'm fine. I've tried putting earplugs in while running, different breathing techniques, and just pushing through it, but nothing helped.
About 7 years ago I finally talked to my doctor about it and he sent me to a neurologist. After a year of tests, useless physical therapy, and constantly switching meds, I just gave up and decided to live with it. I'm thinking about seeing a doctor about it again, but am not sure if I want to deal with it. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

As a physical therapist myself, I experienced this and wondered if I was having cervical related headaches. I fortunately had the chance to have a nationally known PT (who is an expert in cervical headaches) examine me and I too, was found to not have my headaches related to any type of neck problem.
I'm sure you've had other problems ruled out such as high blood pressure, anneurysm, AVM, etc. by having your BP checked and have gone through an MRI and MRA. Once those have been cleared, I suggest you follow up regarding the possibility of "effort headaches." These are headaches caused by the very mechanisms you describe. The good news is, they are usually nothing serious and taking an anti-inflammatory before you exercise is usually enough.
There is some discrepancy between effort and exertion headaches...one being caused by short, strenuous activity (such as lifting...often called a weight lifters headche) and is usually brief...while the other is caused primarily by cardiovascular activity and can happen within minutes or hours and last several hours. There is arugement as to which is an effort and which is an exertion headache...but I believe the approach to treatment is the same...1: make sure nothing else more sinister is going on and 2: anti-inflammatories prophylacitcally.
My physician decided to put me on a beta blocker (which is usually for high blood pressure). Even though I do not have high blood pressure, this seems to have been very effective for me. My headaches are greatly reduced.
I've also found that avoiding exercise in hot weather and avoiding exertion beyond 70% of my maximum heart rate is effective. (It's harder to get your heart rate up while on the beta blocker).
My headaches were primarily caused by swimming, running, etc...and were so severe I'd often vomit...I feel much better now.

About 4 months ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed (the top 2). Only about 1 week ago, I started to get a decent amount of pressure in my pallate, upper jaw, and molars situated right in front of the extraction site. Maybe this co-incides with the onset of really cold weather, maybe not. But has anyone ever heard of something like this? I do grind my teeth at night (that will be taken care of) but could the resulting pressure (less pain, than an annoying ache and pressure) be due to this ?

Reply:i got my wisdom teeth taken out in june...during the summer i would get some pain around the areas and i went back to the dentist. he gave me a thing that looks like a shot that is used to rinse out all the crap that gets stuck in there. that's what was causing my pain, a bunch of food buildup that was in the extraction site. hope that helps!

Why am I still in so much pain after wisdom teeth removal?
I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Wednesday and today is Sunday. I was taking Vicaden and Motrin but the Vicaden made me vomit A LOT so I called my dentist and he told me to stop taking Vicaden and take Tylenol instead so i did and that did not help at all. I went to the Urgent Care Center (on a Military Installation) and they prescribed me Percosat and more Motrin. When I took the Percosat at first it was such a relief but as it started to wear off and I took it for the second time I still feel some pain, not a lot, but I am still not comfortable. Could I maybe have dry socket or is the medicine just not strong enough?
Please no silly answers. Take into mind that I am in the Military and we don't have emergency dentist on call so I have to wait until a duty day to get seen. I have been in excruciating pain all weekend.
Why am I still in so much pain after wisdom teeth removal?
Percocet is about as strong a pain medicine as you'll be able to get... But as with all pain meds, you can't just take the meds once, and then take it again once you feel the pain returning.
The reason is that a certain percentage of the drug is broken down in your body each hour, and eventually the drug drops below the effective therapeutic level. Once that happens, the nerve conduction in the pain pathways re-activate and it may be harder for you to achieve total comfort. This may have happened to you.
The best thing would be to keep on taking the pain meds as prescribed by your doctor, as scheduled. Check the prescription - see if there's a range for the timing. Does it say something like "take every X to Y hrs as needed for pain'"? If so, then you might want to take it closer to X hours rather than Y - you want to keep the therapeutic levels in your body at all times.
That said, it may be possible that you have dry socket in one or more extraction sites. You should visit the dentist regardless for follow-up anyway.
Reply:When you remove a tooth, you create a hole in the jawbone the same size as the tooth you removed. Had you drilled a hole that size in your upper leg, you would not be surprised that it hurt like a wooley booger- would you? You are not going to be comfortable in that site for a while- but yes, you may have a dry socket if the pain is a dull ache in the jawbone itself, below where the tooth was originally. It will not feel like it is located in the gum. You have an Urgent Care Clinic, but there should still be a dentist on call for emergencies and if you return to the UCC the doctor on duty- or the tech for that matter- can call them in to see you. They can pack the site with iodoform guaze and send you off again feeling much better. If that is really just not the option for you, then the next thing is to drink water until your molars float. Let the liquid pool in the cheek pocket at the extraction site. That will get some fluid into the area to rehydrate things a little. Not perfect, but it can help. The Percocet and Mortin will help dull it some as well. If you like, you can also call the UCC and ask if they have a dentist on call to see you- the answer should be yes. They don't like to come in for cavities- but they do come in for post op problems. Not like they have much choice, really.

On the other hand.. my friend... it took her like 2 weeks to fully recover. Her face was swollen and she said she was in terrible pain.
The best thing to do is to put a hot pack on your mouth to sooth the pain... that worked for me.
Remember, just because you take some meds doesn't mean that you aren't going to feel any pain. You are going to feel SOME pain, but it should be small enough for you to be able to relax and get the rest you need.
Give it until next Sunday and if you still don't feel better.. go to the doctor again.

Having more than one extraction in a single visit can make pain worse, simply because the amount of surgical trauma is greater, and the number of sites quickly fatigue you, and cause tension in neck muscles, tongue, and cheek, as you try to breathe and speak.
Unfortunately, head and facial nerves have short, direct paths to the brain, and systemic medications like Tylenol and even codeine laced variants of Tylenol (T3) and synthetic opiates don't do much about dental pain, for many people.
Ice, or frozen peas, applied externally may help. Rinsing your mouth, if you're permitted, perhaps with a salt water solution may help.
But it is possible you're healing has gone awry, and you are experiencing a dry socket. If you can see a well developed brown clot in the extraction, that is usually not the case. But do make sick call first thing tomorrow, regardless of how you feel.
If you're in the first stages of an infection, you don't want that to get far along.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out on a tuesday and the swelling allmost was all the way down by thursday. Then friday, i got an infection and the swelling came back. I had to go back to the dentist to get it cleaned...then it healed normally and didnt hurt any more.
I think you might have an infection in your gums were the teeth used to be. Its been too long since you got them out for them to just be sore. Has the swelling gone away? if not then its probably an infection.

p.s. what branch of the military are you in? im going into the marines at the end of my school year.
Reply:I was in pain for at least a couple of weeks after my wisdoms were out. I could barely open my mouth even alittle bit. In fact, my jaw hurt (dentist said from being opened wide so long for the surgery and from the extraction) so badly that I remember losing wt. because I didn't want to open my mouth to eat. I was on Darvocet but Motrin 600 mg. worked best.
Reply:first of all, vomiting is bad for you because it dislodges the clots that are in charge of healing so the change to tylenol was good...keep taking the percosat and motrin at the smallest intervals...like if it says "2-4 hours" take it every 2 hours...use moist heat compresses too
my daughter got hers extracted last tuesday and on saturday she ate some rice but that was the first day to eat anything "not soft" and then today she felt significantly better and drove back to college(a 3 hour drive)...she has taken advil and demoral and done the ice packs for 48 hours then moist heat compresses and she is well on the way to back to normal...and she has been taking only advil since friday afternoon...but you should see a dentist on next duty day to check for dry socket

Reply:first of all, vomiting is bad for you because it dislodges the clots that are in charge of healing so the change to tylenol was good...keep taking the percosat and motrin at the smallest intervals...like if it says "2-4 hours" take it every 2 hours...use moist heat compresses too
my daughter got hers extracted last tuesday and on saturday she ate some rice but that was the first day to eat anything "not soft" and then today she felt significantly better and drove back to college(a 3 hour drive)...she has taken advil and demoral and done the ice packs for 48 hours then moist heat compresses and she is well on the way to back to normal...and she has been taking only advil since friday afternoon...but you should see a dentist on next duty day to check for dry socket

Reply:Yes it is. You can rinse with warm salt water to help ease the pain. The warm water eases the muscles and the salt protects against minor infection in the mouth. You can also use orajel to numb the area that hurts. It doesn't taste wonderful but it will kill the pain.

Reply:It depends on what you had done, as everyone has said. But it also depends on whether or not you have sensitive teeth. If it were a crown or root canal, you may have some soreness....if you've had a tooth extracted, again you will have some soreness. If you've had a cavity restored, it may be that all the decay wasn't taken out, there might be an infection or maybe the cavity wasn't fully put in. If you did have a cavity...composite fillings are made hard with an ultraviolet light and you should be fine. If it was an amalgam filling or silver filling (they're the same thing) then it takes a few hours for that to fully harden.
you're going to have to be a bit more specific. i'm a dental assistant but i can only go so far as to figure out what kind of pain you're feeling, but i hope it helped. GOOD LUCK =)

If it was more serious than a cleaning, yes, of course they're going to hurt 2 hrs later. :)

Ok, so i went to my orthadontist and before she said i didn't need an expander but now she is saying yes and so today she put spacers in my teeth (these little blue rubber bands that she jammed in between my teeth) I am not the type of person that takes medicene for pain but i will take Advil just not right now. However, as long as the pain isn't too bad, she can leave them in for awhile, until you have the time and money to have them removed. I have some pain from mine, but they've been in for more than a year. I'm supposed to have them removed eventually, but there is no rush.

And if you are noticing sensitivity for the first time, it makes good sense to see your dentist to make sure you have no other problem.

How Do I getRid Of this Pain from Wisdom Teeth Growing In?
I am 19 years old and 30 weeks pregnant...and just a couple of days my wisdom teeth started growing in. It was kind of sore at first but now the whole area on the left side of my mouth where the molars are the gum is very swollen and soft and its very painful....it looks lik a big swollen soft bump. It hurts alot what can i do to take the pain away. Can i go to the dentist and get them pulled or something while im pregnant? Plz help in a lot of pain i can hardly eat...

Have you tried to use Oral Gel" to temporarily numb the pain? Also, washing your mouth out with warm salt water will help. If the gum is real swollen, try a cold pack against the jaw for about 15 min, and if the swelling has gone down, use heat on it for the same amount of time. You rotate this if the swelling keeps coming back

It really was painful but I had to do the things I recommended to you. Once the baby arrives and you can get to an oral surgeon, they can remove it so it will no longer bother you. I just had one removed and it did not hurt at all.

Infections in the mouth hurt like heck of course but worse, one does not want them to spread to the jaw bone and then travel to that closer organ...your brain.

this helped me. since your preggers id ask your doctor about what pain meds you can take or oragel and get your self into the dentist. your teeth might be growing into some other teeth causeing you alot of pain. but in the mean while. do the wash cloth thing. :)

Infections in the mouth hurt like heck of course but worse, one does not want them to spread to the jaw bone and then travel to that closer organ...your brain.
I would say go to the dentist and let him or her be the judge for both of your health.

I got my four impacted teeth out very early this morning and was put to sleep thankfully! I am still numb but I am in absolutely no pain. I still can't feel my jaws, chin or lips, but I also can't feel any pain either. I've been out and about, running errands,shopping, and everything! I might even be attending an event for Valentines day with some friends later...if these ice packs do their job and make the swelling go down. So I was just wondering am I one of the "lucky" ones who don't experience that much pain....or is it too soon to tell? The surgeon wrote me a prescription for 40 Lortab but I haven't even needed them. :-D One thing I do notice is that as the anesthesia is kind of wearing off, it is beginning to hurt when I swallow. Is this normal? I guess i'm just excited because I was expecting the worst, but I feel nothing. Can it be possible to have a pain free wisdom tooth surgery? Especially since mine were impacted, %26amp;one had a bad cavity?

If you have a good clot that covers the nerves, you have minimal pain. If the nerves are exposed, without a "cover" than it is horribly painful. Be careful not to chew anything as the dentist told you, so as not to disturb the "clot".

I'm having the worst pain with my teeth that my doctor worked on months ago.?
i've visted him yesterday and he said that it was the result of my wisdom teeth growing and to take advil to stop the pain. The thing is that Advil onlo wok for about three hours aned then i'm back to the pain again. What should I do?

Zoom Teeth Whitening Pain?
I recently went in for the Zoom Whitening System where they put gel on my teeth and sat me under a lamp for three 15 min sessions. The gel got on my lips and gums and I am now suffering with blisters and swelling. I can not brush my teeth. My teeth do not hurt from cold, my gums are just in serious trauma. Please advise...is this normal? Will it subside? Help!

You should get at least a partial refund. They did not perform the job as intended. The pain will subside eventually, though the sensitive teeth will take longer probably than the gums, lips. That is ridiculous and I sure hope you go back and let them help you. The dentist should be able to prescribe something for the pain you are experiencing. Call him right now!
P.S. As another posted said, some tooth sensitivity can be expected and experienced. Burned lips and gums are not to be expected and are not normal. You dentist should offer a solution to your pain immediately.
P.S.S. Dentists who are qualified at zoom usually apply a waterproof protectant to gums and surrounding tissue for safety so they do not get burned.

Your dentist will probably give you some type of ointment for your lips and gums and an antibiotic. I'm serious, see your dentist ASAP.
Reply:No you should not get a partial refund as the first person says. I have been doing Zoom on patients for years and I can tell you first off, the sensitivity is normal. I had my boss do Zoom on me and the sensitivity lasted about 12 hours. Second, the gel, though it is not meant to get on the lips or soft tissue inside the mouth, can cause burning. I am usually very careful when applying the gel, and make sure I block out the gums and cover the rest of the tissue with guaze but some times the block out barrier breaks during the procedure, sometimes because the patient moved their mouth, like if they were stretching, and it doesn't mean that the assistant or the dentist did anything wrong.
The sensitivity will go away. It is normal in any type of bleaching, including and even more so with in office whitening. As far as the blisters and swelling, just rinse with warm salt water if you can stand it, or just give it a chance to go away. It will more than likely go away. I have never had a patient have this problem last for more than a couple of days or so.
Though we do apply a waterproof barrier, it can not hold up to a patient moving their jaw (like they are stretching), trying to talk during the procedure (like I have seen numerous times) or moving their tongue over the teeth. If a patient does any of this (and I am not saying you did) the gel will get on the tissue.

Our name on the line and we'd lose far more in potential referrals that we would refunding the price of Zoom treatment.

Going through the pain of wisdom teeth?
so i've got 3 wisdom teeth that have came through allready, might I had very very painfully. I am now 19 and my last one is coming through and its hurting just as bad as all the other ones. IS there anything i can do to keep it cleaned, i do mouthwash twice a day w/ crest pro health, i just want to keep it from getting infected. You might also check at your local free clinic/hospital for services. Surely as your spouse only makes $18K a year you should qualify for something.
Reply:I had to get all my wisdom teeth, along with all my back molars pulled about 3 years ago (8 teeth). Needless to say, dental insurance just couldn't cover all of it (something like $300 a tooth!). My out of pocket expense was around $1,700. In order to pay for it, I financed it through a company called Care Credit. It's a credit card for health and dental procedures that insurance doesn't cover. I believe it was 0% financing for 6 months, however if it's not paid off in that time frame, the past interest accrues. I would highly suggest looking into that, as it sound like you really need to have all of these teeth removed. I know it's not fun to spend that kind of money, but it's better for your health in the long run.

Any advice for pain after wisdom teeth removal? Pills don't seem to be lasting long enough.?
I had my 2 lower teeth surgically extracted yesterday. They were full impacted. They gave me 5mg Oxycodone. They bottle says 1 every 4-8 hours. I am taking them every four hours but after the third hour I am in excruciating pain again.
What can I do?

Alternate the Oxycodone with ibuprofen so as to keep daily maiximums of each drug within limits.
i.e. oxycodone, then 3 hours later ibuprofen, then 3 hours later oxycodone again, etc.
You are therefore getting MORE than 4 hours between each dose of the SAME medication.
If this still isn't enough then split them only 2 hours apart., and you will be getting exactly 4 hours apart for each medication.
Reply:Take Tylenol 3. You need a perscription, but for this type of surgery you can usually get it. If not, take Codine or something that contains it.
You definitely should call your doc and tell him about the pain so you can get something stronger..
In terms other ways for pain relief, ice packs worked for me. Try frozen peas or soft ones so you can mold them to the shape of your face.
Nothing will take the pain away fully except time, but this should help! eat ice cream and feel better!

He couldn't find a cavity with x-rays, and it turned out the tooth in question was above it and the pain actually transferred to a bottom healthy tooth. once he filled the cavity all pain disappeared.
Reply:It is important that you take your antibiotic and pain medication as part of your after tooth extraction care. The antibiotic prevents infection of the wound created during your oral surgery and an infection free wound is much more comfortable than one that is infected.
You must return in one or two week for your post operative appointment. To be sure you have healed correctly. Sutures may also need to be removed.
No one wants oral surgery complications but if they do occur you should report them to the dentist immediately.

How can I lessen the pain caused by teeth spacers?
I just had some teeth spacers put in my mouth, 4 on the bottom (2 on each side) and 4 on the top set of teeth (same, 2 on each side). I've taken tylenol but I continue to have a dull ache in my mouth and it is difficult for me to eat as it really hurts my teeth. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to lessen the pain or at least make it more tolerate at the moment while eating, and just in general. Thanks for your help in advance!

Reply:go to a gnc store or www.gnc.com . look for pure white willow bark. it is the only know pain killer in nature that is non- addictive. i have meds that include this ingridient because of my knees. it's great..... i'm not recomending it, but, one over the counter drug that has it is " stackers 2". you will be gettin a butt load of caffine with those also. i would look into alternatives if thats not something you need.

Reply:when I had spacers, I took a good brand of paper towel and rolled it and folded up and stuck one in between the top row and bottom row on each side to bite on and then I used one paper towel split in half and folded it and stuck them inside my jaws and slept like that. The pain wasn't totally gone but I could eat and after about 2 days of that the pain was gone.

Reply:when I had spacers, I took a good brand of paper towel and rolled it and folded up and stuck one in between the top row and bottom row on each side to bite on and then I used one paper towel split in half and folded it and stuck them inside my jaws and slept like that. The pain wasn't totally gone but I could eat and after about 2 days of that the pain was gone.

Question about dry socket causing pain in other teeth?
I visited the OS this morning who told me that what the dentist THOUGHT was a bone fragment in my X-ray is actually dead tissue from having dry socket. He packed it and sent me on my way.
I did ask him if this dry socket is causing me to have pain in my other teeth- the answer was yes, but he did not have time to talk.
My question is: How can the dry socket in my right lower side (from wisdom tooth extraction) be causing my other teeth to hurt? It is weird because the opposite side of my mouth (namely my very back molars) are very sensitive and painful.

I have wear on 4 teeth on left of my mouth from grinding and pain on two teeth should I have them polished?
I am 24 I have wear on the left of my mouth (on 4 teeth from grinding). I noticed most of the pressure of my bite and Ive been told is on the left side of my mouth. So in other words when I bite down on the left side of my mouth all my teeth strike while on the right side of my mouth when I bite down all the way not many of my top and bottom teeth actually touch each other. Last October I used crest whitestrips and then I started clenching very badly without knowing. When I bite down my left center tooth and my left eye tooth have always struck each other (at least after I had braces 5 years ago). But now that I have this sensitivity to pressure....When I bite down all the way, these two teeth strike the bottom teeth and when they do it creates bad pain. My dentist can polish the back so that they no longer strike. He said he's done it for others and it solves the issue caused by them striking each other and therefore the healing process begins. Is this is a good idea?

hi, i actually just got my wisdom teeth out today! it wasnt as bad as i thought too. b/f going into it, the thing i worried about most was anesthesia as i have never been put to sleep before/dont know what it's like, but it happened so quick, so i'm fine. when i got home my cheeks were puffy and it was hard to eat even soft foods. my tongue felt like it was huge and heavy. then i put on ice packs for a few hours and the puffy cheeks went away. my mouth right now feels funny, but not extremely painful. and it is a little bit easier, but not easy, to eat. so i have a question for you that have had wisdom teeth extractions and remember a day by day thing. how many days after the first day will the pain last? does it get any worse than the first day? does it become easier to eat/brush your teeth? can someone, preferably a dentist or dental assistant or such, please tell me. thanks

They gave you some Vicodin right? just take that until you feel like you can be OK without them. After like three days you should be able to eat normal food again. It depends. Maybe the position of the wisdom tooth on the right side was in a more difficult angle for the oral surgeon to get to. Was your wisdom tooth one the right side impacted if so that could be the main reason. Two extra strength Tylenol or better yet Advil should do the trick if it doesn't then you should call the oral surgeon's office and have them prescribe some Vicodin or Tylenol 3 which has coedine in it that should help with the pain. As for tonight keep your head elevated with 2 or more pillows, don't smoke if you do, don't spit and put ice or frozen veggies on your extraction sites in 15 minute intervals that should keep you comfy till morning. i only have one sharp pain in 1 tooth!
INFO: alright i dont have dental insurance and so we went to the top of the line dentist clinic in MEXICO!!! no i never ever want to go there agian!! this is because the dentist fixed and filled 4 TEETH. i had 3 cavities and had to be filled with some white filling.
BAD THINGS: my teeth feel like the are uneven 2 molars on my right are slightly higher that the molars to the left.
THE PAIN is on my top molar to the left and somehow it came out CRACKED!!! i dont know why but i had it like that for my whole life and she filed it (like your nails) and filled the outside with white filling.
So is it normal for some of the fillings to crack off to fit and are ALL THE FILLINGS LIKE THAT??
and why does my top molar hurt so bad i want to cry?? is it a nerve because the top has a sharp pain on the TOOTH every time i touch it soft. will it go away??

2. A cracked filling will likely become infected and need a root canal. If it's not infected, maybe you can get a sealant put over it to cover the crack.
3. The top molar might hurt if the dentist overdrilled the tooth. I had very painful dental pain from a filling and when i went for a 2nd opinion, it turned out the filling was pressing on a nerve so i was in chronic pain.
I ended up with chronic earaches, sinus infection, dizziness, and later on, an abscess in my gum thanks to my dentist's mistake.
If you can't go to the dentist, try calling your local dental school and they can help you out or offer some resource.

I recommend that you see another dentist in the United States. If you don't have dental insurance, you could probably do a payment plan with your dentist or, you could call a local dental school and make an appointment. They are always needing patients there as well.

My dentist said that I need to get my wisdom teeth out, but there is no rush because there is plenty of room and everything looks fine. Reply:I had this exact same pain with my wisdom teeth. This is the exact reason they need to come out! I would contact your dentist to get referred to a good oral surgeon. The surgeon can set up the tooth extraction, and prescribe a pain killer for you.
Here is the good news - with the exception of the first 4 hours after surgery, the pain my wisdom teeth caused prior to surgery was far worse than anything after.

Reply:I had this exact same pain with my wisdom teeth. This is the exact reason they need to come out! I would contact your dentist to get referred to a good oral surgeon. The surgeon can set up the tooth extraction, and prescribe a pain killer for you.
Here is the good news - with the exception of the first 4 hours after surgery, the pain my wisdom teeth caused prior to surgery was far worse than anything after.

Reply:Every person is different, but don't forget that the wisdom teeth are in the bone, that is why they hurt more when either coming down or being extracted. The dentist should have given you some mild pain killers too. If they didn't then ask the chemist for a mild preparation with paracetamol and codeine in it. It is not really recommended to have aspirin as this will thin the blood and you may start bleeding again if the hole is still open. If it has closed completely then aspirin will dramatically improve the pain because of it's blood thinning qualities as it will allow the blood to flow more freely around the site of extraction.
If the pain is excruciating, then try these few things too....
rub the thumb on the same side as where the tooth was removed, swill some Listerine around the area, apply ome bonjela, gargle some apple cider vinegar, warm salty water or Chlorohexedine. Apply a heat or cold pack, whichever feels the best.
If the pain still persists, then I would suggest going back to the dentist just to make sure that all is fine.

I'm usually a fitness walker and I'm trying to progress to running. When ever I run I can feel a dull pain in my lower, front teeth gum line. Is this normal and what is it?

2 weeks ago, i had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled. And I am getting gum swelling and pain on my left side of my jaw... Called the Doctor-- havent heard back- should I be worried?

This used to be a problem for me after most very long runs or ultras. It is primarily caused by inhaling/exhaling a large volume of air over the hours, resulting in dehydration of the mouth. My dentist also noted that the same thing can happen to the teeth, making them more sensitive to hot and cold for 24 hours or so. I really noticed sensitive teeth after running the Steamboat Marathon when the air temperature was in the 70s while the dew point was only 16F - very dry air.
What has worked for me to eliminate the sore mouth is to carry fluids in a bottle and drink a small amount every 8-10 minutes. I think it also helps that the sports drink I use has a small amount of fat in it (MCT) and that puts a thin layer of fat on the tissues, slowing evaporation from them. I've had no instances of "sore mouth" since using that type of drink.

Usually this problem occurs when your sinuses are blocked and when you walk or run your teeth feel as if they are going to fall out! This is because of the pressure, go to your dentist to get them checked to be on the safe side incase there are any underlying problems but usually blocked sinus' are to blame.

Gum pain where wisdom teeth use to be?
I have a small swollen point in my gum. It's on my lower jaw, where my wisdom tooth use to be (they were removed 2 years ago). It's painful and I think it's a gum infection. What are the symptoms of a gum infection? What are the treatments? How can I have healthier teeth? I brush and floss and use floride rinse but I still always have problems with cavaties and i'm afraid of dentists. I have made an appointment with a dentist for my gum pain but i'm just wondering what the problem is and what he'll most likely do for it. Thanks!

I have never had this problem before, but the whole left side of my bottom teeth hurt like hell. Everything from the gums to the top of the teeth. I can't close my mouth because it send shocks of pain, and I can't eat. What could be the problem?

Drixoral is my favorite one that is over the counter. You want the one that looks like a green M%26amp;M. It will help you sleep.

Abscess could do this possibly too. You may have decay or a cracked tooth and Xray will show more than you could see on your own. If you took a blow to the area you could have some damage that may have taken a bit to become painful.
You should have a dentist check you out. Use something for the pain like Tylenol and try to see a professional as soon a possible.

Intermittent throbbing pain. post- wisdom teeth removal?
Just a little background before I describe the problem.
I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia. The surgery was painless, other than the fact that Ihad lot of swelling and muscle tightness on one side and could hardly eat for a week. In 2-3 weeks, the swelling has subsided completely, eating is back to normal. Now the problem.
2 weeks after my surgery, I started going to the gym and that is when I discovered that any kind of aerobic exercise (treadmill, elliptical trainer etc.) starts a throbbing pain on the upper side (of the side which had the swelling the first week). Initially I thought, that was because I was trying to run. The next day, I noticed that the throbbing pain shows up even when I do a brisk walk...I usually walk fast. I don't have any pain otherwise, have followed all post surgery instructions and am wondering why do I get the pain? Should I go back to the oral surgeon for a check? Please help. Thanks.

When you exercise there's a tendency to clinch your mouth. This could be causing pressure on the surgery area hence the pain. observe your mouth during exercise And try to keep it slack. See if this helps.
if this doesn't help you should go back to the oral surgeon.

Pain in the teeth?
Well about a week and a half ago i was playing softball and got hit in the face. It was in the lower nose/ upper lip region. I had massive swelling and a big cut on my lip(which are both gone now). But the weirdest thing happens when i move my nose! If i am blowing my nose or like scratching it get pain in my 2 front teeth and the oddest part is depending on which way i move the cartillige; thats the tooth that hurts. Push it left, left front tooth and vise versa.

I fell a fews years ago and cut my face in the same spot... turned out the fall also "killed" my tooth... and I had to have a root canal... it helped TREMENDOUSLY!:) (and you couldn't really tell there was a problem by looking at my front teeth... I just had pain when (like you said) I moved my gums or face in certain ways...)

Reply:This could be a potentially serious problem so read carefully. If you put your finger on the gums above your teeth is there a small bump or squishy lump? If there is that could be a blood clot or bruise under the gums. Both of those are serious and you should see a doctor or dentist about it as soon as possible. Getting hit above the mouth is always bad as there is allot of bacteria that is in the mouth so it is prone to infection. Id advise going to the doctor as i cannot supply that much help not being able to see it. A number of things can be wrong so i would not wait to go to the doctor, any sharp pain that jumps from one part of the body to another is always something and should be checked out. Good Luck!

depends on how your teeth are? did thety come in straight or are they all sideways and stuff? my teeth came in straight so i didn't have that much pain (they were ALL impacted) and i really didnt have pain. i made the mistake of taking the painkillers they prescribed the first day and threw up all day.

Odd pain, long after teeth removed..?
Alright, I'm 25, and have had all my teeth out, its been over a year I think now, and I've had my permenant(until I get implants anyway) dentures for a good while. they do need to be relined though, and its been longer than it should, but I'm not sure if that matters on this.
before I had my teeth out, the K9 teeth were relatively prominent, and sometimes if I pressed on them it would have a funny unpleasant feeling like... deep, next to the nose, sort of.
the last day or two I've noticed an odd pain in that vicinity again... but... only when I shake my head, or like the other night I bumped it on the headboard a little (not hard, this weird pain was more than the actual bump) and it felt sorta like an almost wiggle? its definitely not excruciating or anything, just... not very pleasant. and sorta disturbing.

It sounds like you may possibly have something such as a sinus infection, possibly in communication (e.g. via fistula) with your extraction site. Also possible that there is a communication into you mouth. As with all possible infections, you should have this examined by a dentist or oral surgeon as soon as possible. I would call their number; if they are unable to see you soon, they may prescribe antibiotics. But you should have it looked at. Take care.
Reply:ever hear of a phantom limb? Basically an amputee, %26lt;someone who has lost a arm or leg%26gt; might have pain from the MISSING limb. This is possible due to neurons that fire in the brain can not make fast adjustments. %26lt;fires together- wires together%26gt;
the nerve endings that housed your teeth remember pain that they once felt, an I believe you may be having "phantom pain" from the sockets were the nerve endings are trying to feel the bad tooth, expecting to feel pain, but when it don't --it simulates it with the brain-- which is already is hard wired to receive pain signals from that location.
when a amputee complains about phantom pain the solution they receive is to rub the nerve ending that are receiving the pain signal. however in your case, oral pain I believe that a hair dryer aimed at your open mouth would be the best solution for pain. That solution also works wonders on bad teeth, to alleviate the pain--temporally. but it does work.
wisdom teeth could cause this pain as well if you have not had them removed already they come in between the ages of 16-24 normally, and typically need to be removed.
if you feel congested, sinuses plugged, feeling, cant breathe Thu nose, then you may want to think about clearing that up, perhaps with a doctors assistance if infection is present.
my bets are on the phantom pain though.
