Extracted wisdom teeth???? Is this pain NORMAL?

My 4 wisdom teeth were extracted Tuesday morning, and I felt great all day Tuesday and all day yesterday too with only minor swelling. I've been able to talk, hang out with friends, go out, and just do whatever I normally do. But for some reason, today (day 3), I woke up and the pain was much worse, my jaw hurt, I could feel the stitches, and I also had more swelling! Is this normal? Isn't the pain supposed to lessen as the days go by, not get worse? Also, I am still not able to eat what I want to...I tried eating a baked potato with barbecue, and it took me forever. I couldn't even chew it, I have to press it to the roof of my mouth in order for me to swallow it. On top of that, I notice that my other teeth that were next to my wisdom teeth hurt now as well. Whats going on??? I was doing so well... Is it normal for the pain to get worse, or do I need to go to my oral surgeon and get a check up? I just want to eat and go back to work and be normal. :(

for the first week you have to eat really soft food.


like: applesauce, pudding, Jello, Ect.


no soda for at least two weeks.it can cause dry sockets.


to help with the pain, eat cold stuff like: yogurt, jello, icecream, anything cold.


keep ice on your cheeks for awhile. it'll help the swelling

when i got mine out i was supposed to gargle warm salt water about 4 to 6 times a day and that cleans it and takes down the swelling. mine hurt for about 5 days so id wait 2 or 3 more days and if it still hurts bad than go back to the surgeon.
Reply:It is possible, the day of and day after you could have had residual affects of the numbing agent they used to extract the teeth. The area is now realizing what appened and yes it will seem like the teeth around are aching and you might even start to have headaches.





It took me about a week before I could eat normally after having mine extracted. ( I had three taken out)





If you are concerned it can't hurt to call your oral surgeon, if nothing else they can prescribe a pain killer to help you get through the next day or two.
Reply:You could be experiencing dry sockets. I've heard that kind of pain is terrible and common in wisdom tooth sockets. You need to call them and let them know, they can write a prescription and tell you how to take care of it, they should have already.

Get to a doctor or clinic immediately before your face rots off!!!

Reply:You could have what is called "dry sockets". It is when the blot clot that forms after the extraction is lost. Therefore exposing the bone and\or the nerve. Is there an odor? That is another symptom of dry socket. If this is the case, you need to see your dentist so that he can insert a medicated gauze on the site.
Reply:I lived off of pudding and slimfast shakes for a week and a half after I had mine out.





My doctor gave me an anti swelling agent that helped, but I still had swelling that increased for a few days post-op then went down.





I would say, if you are still uncomfortable tomorrow AM, you should at the very least call and ask your surgeon's office if they think you should go in.





It will take some time for your life to go back to normal, but I do understand the feeling. It sucks watching everyone else eat steak when you're stuck with a milkshake because it hurts. Hang in there. Your mouth will heal faster than you know it.
Reply:The third post-operative day is always the worst. Have you been taking your medication like your supposed to. The docs I work for recommend taking Advil or Ibuprofen ever 6 hours for three days whether you think you need it or not. This keeps down the swelling and inflammation. You should have been taking it easy and not doing what you normally do. Put ice packs on your cheeks. DO NOT DRINK WITH A STRAW. Eat a soft diet.





The pain in your teeth next to your wisdom teeth probably hurt because the areas are tender or your having referred pain.
