I want to get my teeth whitened... pain involved?

..I have VERY sensitive teeth. Should I try an over the counter item such as Crest Whitestrips, or go to my dentist for a professional treatment such as Zoom? What are the pain levels involved with each of those treatments?

I want to get my teeth whitened... pain involved?
No pain at all
Reply:I also have very sesitive teeth, and I tried the Crest white strips, but they hurt my teeth and gums. I would go to the denist and ask him/her.
Reply:Some. Includes the dentist bar to hold open your mouth and the chemicals sting the gums. It's not a straight bar but a round plastic type piece that is very annoying. Be sure and get your lips in shape b4 no chapped lips or they bleed :( The lazer does not include the chemicals but still an appliance to keep your mouth open and u sit for awhile like that.

Strips? I hear they burn the gums too.
Reply:i do suggest the crest whitestrips or to the dentist
Reply:I have had zoom Whitening and it was not pain-full as such I had what is called zingers like I had bitten in to ice cream but it was over and done with very quick I have them on and off of about 4 hours I just took to painkillers went to bed the next morning teeth were back to normal, As if you have very sensitive teeth you should go to your dentist before you think about any whitening as you could be brushing to hard and need little filling up by you gum,
Reply:crest whitestrips are also made for sensitive teeth.

the dentist's lasers and maybe even shots could be painful. do it yourself first and if all else falls try plan b. (dentist)
Reply:If you already have sensitive teeth whitening will probably cause more intense sensitivity. There are some things you can do. 1. Stick to milder whiteners b/c they won't cause as much sensitivity. Try over the counter white strips first and see if the results are enough for you. 2. Do some prep before whitening your teeth. If you can see your hygienist and get your teeth cleaned and have a professional fluoride treatment done. This will help with the most with the sensitivity. If you can't see your dentist, begin using sensitive toothpaste daily about 2-4 weeks before whitening as well as daily fluoride rinses. This will help to block off the sensitivity nerves. With the sensitive toothpaste, brush but at least 1 time a day just spit and don't rinse after brushing you will rinse the sensitivity ingredient off, wait 30 minutes to eat or drink, if you have a particularly sensitive are you can rub a little there after you finish brushing. Buy a fluoride rinse from the store 1 time a day swish, spit, no rinsing, eating, or drinking for 30 minutes. After doing this try the whitestrips, keep doing this routine along with the whitening strips and take a day off the whitening if it gets too sensitive.

PS the zoom or professional whitening would probably send you through the roof sensitive
Reply:I just got the Zoom! done yesterday and it worked soo well. It was alittle painful but I when I woke up this morning it was gone %26amp; my teeth looked great! I tried the white strips before the zoom and they didnt work for me.
