i need an opinion, I have a tooth will a lot of decay and a filling to the nerve, the dentist said I need a root canal and then a crown,I am experiencing great pain and on pencillin and hydrocodone, could I just get it pulled out instead of the whole root canal experience???
Teeth and pain?
While it would be the cheaper alternative right now to have the tooth extracted, nothing is better then your natural tooth. If you have the tooth extracted,to restore chewing function and to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting, the extracted tooth must be replaced with an implant or bridge. This would require surgery or dental procedures on adjacent healthy teeth and can be far more costly and time consuming than a root canal and restoration of the natural tooth.
No matter how effective modern tooth replacements are,and they can be very effective, nothing is as good as a natural tooth.
Reply:Yes you would be better off just pulling it unless it's a front tooth that would be noticed. If it's a back tooth then just get it pulled. Cheaper too. The reason I have said to get it pulled is because I have had the same problem and as far as your teeth shifting is not true. It hasn't happened to me yet and my teeth have been like they are for several years. As far as chewing function, 1 tooth won't change a thing. You have at least 20-something other teeth to cover for that one being missing. Any dental assistant would tell you to get a root canal because that is their job and of course their practice makes more off of it.
Reply:Yup tell them thats what you want depending if your insurance will pay for it, ask the dentest. or just wait untell it gets so bad that they have to pull it out, thats what I did.
Reply:Sissy is right! Nothing is better than having your natural tooth. If you get this tooth pulled, you could cause a domino effect on your other teeth. Let's say you get this tooth pulled, then the tooth behind it and the tooth in front of it will start to shift around %26amp; in the long run, cause bone loss on these teeth %26amp; they may need to be pulled in the future. Get the root canal done; you'll be thankful later.
