Taking vicodin for wisdom teeth pain. How much is too much?

i was prescribed vicodin to take 1-2 pills every 4 hours. So i started by taking one pill, and 4 hours later i was still in a good deal of pain . So then I took 2 pills once the time was up, and it worked like a charm. it made me a little sleepy, and the pain was completely absent. I plan on taking another 2 pills in a little while, but am worried its too much. Will i get addicted? Will I become immune?

You won't become addicted or tollerant unless you continue the medication for weeks. If you are haveing ongoing pain this is not a good drug to take. Ask your doctor about NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory medications) like Motrin, as they are a better choice for longer use of pain pills.

Reply:Two at a time is fine. When I had an ear infection I was given codeine and I was to take two at once. Once the bottle was up my infection was gone and so was my need for codeine.

It depends on the strength prescribed and your body mass...to determine what is too much.





Follow the directions and check with the doctor and or pharmacist.





If you follow the directions you should be fine.





IF you have an addictive personality, then you must always err on the side of caution, dig down deep and only do what is right...





I always go mind over matter first before I choose to take any kind of pain drug, be it aspirin, Tylenol Ibuprofen or even Tylenol...





Sometimes ice packs with a towel between the pack and your face helps a lot. It reduces the swelling and pain...
Reply:Well, when I was prescribed Lorcet 10/650's. When I took two, one would not work anymore. The deal is to take the least amount, there is absolutely no point in increasing the dose. Once you set your brain to two, that is what you will need, than you will need three. It is a drawn out process to explain and these are nothing to play around with. Respect them and cherish that one works. And do not graduate to anything higher like oxycodone. In other words, take one from a friend. The vicodens simply than will not work.
Reply:how many mgs are ypu on vicodin is not as perocet it's up to you if you feel you need the pain meds then take them, if not sell them there is a large market for Vicodin since the show HOUSE aired.
Reply:if you were prescribed 1-2 pills PRN 4 hours then you probably were given the lowest strength 3.5/350. Taking 1-2 PRN (as needed) means you can take 2 at the same time. The strength of vicodin goes to 7.5/750 and higher 10mg APAP under the names of lortab and Norco. Narcotic medicatioin, and Vicodin one of them, usually will not create addictive tendancies unless used more than 20 days in a row. That doesn't mean you might not have one night of restlessness or stomach problems if you're on them for 10 days, but with it being for wisdom teeth im guessing you were probably only prescribed a total of 20 pills or possibly 30 if only the 350 strength. You have no problem of becoming chemically dependent on the drug with that prescription. Its actually a very low dose for a narcotic painkiller.
Reply:If u got these pains for ur wisdom teeth then ur doc probably didn't give u many.........the pain should ease up in a week, then quit taking them bc they ARE very ADDICTING!!!!!
