I had my left side upper and lower wisdom teeth extracted about a month ago and ever since I have had som head, and jaw pain, and whole lot of neck pain since. The pain is mostly in the side of my neck where my gland is and is not severe but just annoying like a nerve or something. I went back to the dentist and he said he don't think anything is wrong so I went to the doctor and he said maybe a infection so I got a shot and 10 days of antibotics but still having neck pain and every once in a while head and jaw pain and sometimes rarley my jaw goes numb for a split second and I am starting to even have a slight shoulder pain.
All my aches and slight pains are on the same side as my extractions and the really feel like nerve pain.
Also ( don't laugh) I have started having a slight pain in my penis which feels just like my other pains and I am certain somehow they alll the little pains are connected , and no I am not kidding.
BTW I did finish up all ten days of antibotics.

Ask your dentist for a referral to a TMJ specialist. Been there done that. It does affect your shoulders, neck, jaw, head, and even chest. But I would think the penis pain would be something else.
Reply:Don't go see that dentist any more cuz wisdom teeth extraction is more serious than they make it seem.
Sometimes you really dont need it and they tell you that you do.
Its risky because theres a vital nerve that can play with your sense of touch. (which sounds like something happened with that)
Go see another MD for a second opinion and a lawyer cuz i think they messed up.

Pain above 2 front teeth,why?
My 2 front teeth have caps(or crowns) on them.I have pain above one tooth and it seems like their not lined up properly when i bite down.On my gums,it hurts when you press on it above my one tooth.Its hard to chew because it hurts when the top teeth come together with the bottom teeth.This started Christmas day.I have been to the dentist before this and there are no cavities.Any suggesstions?

If this is the case, it sounds like you may have an infection around one or both of the teeth and possibly may need root canal retreatment. Unfortunately root canals fail sometimes, if the nerve wasnt fully removed, or the file too deep and perforated your canal. Definately get to a dentist, you do not want to lease your front teeth and especially after spending all of the money for crowns. Good luck!
Reply:Something might be stuck under the cap or the cap came loose or shifted, which might be the case since you say it feels uneven. I'd make an appointment with the dentist to have it checked out. You might also try taking a Water Pik and irrigating around the gum line. If there's something stuck there, that might help get rid of it - like when a popcorn kernal gets caught in the back teeth. Jaw Pain and misaligned teeth?
Last night I got sudden pain in the right side of my jaw, almost like a muscle spasm, and since then my back teeth in that side feel as if they are misaligned and I feel as if I cannot close my bite/teeth properly - its as if my teeth are not where they are meant to be.
The pain is not continous, it comes and goes, and to be honest its not that sore, except when I try to eat.
It just feels really horrible not being able to close my teeth properly.
I do have a jaw that often clicks, but its not doing that at the moment.
Has anyone ever had this before? will it go away?

Pain after wisdom teeth out?
I just had my wisdom teeth out on Friday December 7th. All four were impacted. I was put under through IV sedation. I did not feel anything, and was pretty numb the rest of the day after my surgery. But my question is...I didn't start feeling pain until the next night, so I took some pain killers. He gave me Ibuprofen and Vicodin. They've been killing the pain, but I'm had to take them every 4-5 hours. I mean the pain goes away when I take the pain killers and everything. Is this normal?

Make sure you use a good salt water rinse for about the next week and mouthwash at least twice a day for a month as the wound where the teeth were will need to be kept clean. Also, after I had that done I had bone chips surface for the next 10 years. but I am a smoker and that extended the healing time.

Reply:I went through the same thing. Unless your fever gets above 101, or you have to take pain meds more than every 4 hours, don't worry about it. Make sure you eat soft foods like apple sauce and mashed potatoes for the first few days to keep some soreness down.

It was the first time in my life i had ever taken pain killers and actually noticed a significant decrease in pain. Like what you said, they made me feel like 500000 times better when I took em. I did have a fever off and on for about a week too.

I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out in August and had to take around 8 strong painkillers a day; although my dentist warned me that I am taking too much, I've just stopped using painkillers for some time afterwards (e.g. for headache) so as to not become completely immune to them. The pain will go away soon (however it's completely normal) and you'll never have trouble with wisdom teeth again as many people do!

They were pretty potent and helped, but I found that even after my prescription ran out I had to get more for the pain. The main thing that you don't want to do is get a dry socket. Hopefully you don't smoke as it delays the healing process. An elevated temp. is normal too for the first couple of days. here are some things you might want to check out for info on post op oral surgery.

I'm lucky to not have much swelling at all but it nices sometimes to ice my cheeks, my dentist told me to alternate every 2hrs with the pain killers, I got T3 with codin and ibprofein (600mg). But i have stopped taking them right now, my mouth/jaw is sore but it's also a new feeling too. I've been getting headaches too but it's bad enough yet for me to miss work, it's managible for now.

Pain after 2 teeth extracted?
I had 2 lower teeth extracted on Saturday afternoon, and I was given like 15 Ibuprofen 800mg tablets for pain. I had to double the dose %26amp; take 2 tablets every 4 hours instead of 1 tablet, to do any good at all. I now only have 1 tablet left. The dentist is closed today %26amp; won't open until tomorrow (Tuesday) until about 2:30pm. What can I do to help reduce the pain until the dentist open, as no over the counter pain medicine help %26amp; this is quite bad pain as it was a very difficult extraction? I have done salt-water rinses, however it does not reduce any pain I'm in other than for like 2 minutes, than it comes right back.

Before you ask. It is natural and safe. I used it on a wisdom tooth abscess and after I got them pulled. I took every narcotic prescribed and nothing helped like this oil. Hope this helps.

Pain between two teeth..?
i have pain between two teeth (1st molar %26amp; 2nd premolar(bicuspid)).. the bicuspid had a root canal, but i started feeling a really sharp pain that seems to come from between the two teeth.. dentist removed filling in molar, found some decay below the old filling and performed a root canal.. the pain is still there, dentist has referred me to a periodontist, but does anyone have an idea of what might be causing it..?? seeing the periodontist in a week..

If the symptoms are actually worse now then prior to the root canal, it would seem logical that maybe there was another canal he was unable to locate. But it seems that if he is referring you to a Periodontist, he did not eliminate this when conducting his exam/diagnosis. PRIOR to you having to have a root canal.
-OR-....and this can be the case, he simply does not know, so he is sending you to a specialist. Either way, a Periodontist can evaluate this as an endo/perio lesion. It may be possible that you need to see an Endodontist if the Periodontist has no significant findings. Be sure to tell the Dr. if you have been on any antibiotics, when you started taking them and for how long. Antibiotics can mask symptoms as well.

I've currently experiencing pain in my molar teeth on both (1) the grinding surface and (2) side- between my "affected" molar and "unaffected molar". The pain occurs when i bite, and continue to linger. Dentist mentioned that it might be a cracked tooth, which is not visible to the naked eye, and said that an x-ray is not necessary. He suggested performing a root canal or bear with it if its bearable.
I was wondering whether are there any other ways to verify whether there is indeed a crack in the molar teeth, if the x-ray cannot see hairline cracks. Also, would dental bonding/filling the grinding surface be able to get rid of the pain?

What you have is a cracked tooth, the symptoms you show are the classic for cracked tooth syndrom. The only way to treat that tooth is with a crown. The crown will hold the crack together and should no longer bother you. If you have cracked that tooth all the way into the root, then you will need a root canal and a crown. But there may not be a way to know that until after the crown is on. The x-ray will not show a crack unless the person taking the x-ray is lucky enough to get it lined up just right.

If you twist you ankle you try to rest it and the same must be done with the tooth. The dentist may also check your occlusion to see what kind of forces are being placed on the teeth. I would say 60-80% of toothaches are a result of this "traumatic occlusion."
If you tooth is cracked then no amount of rest will allow it to heal. Your dentist is suggesting you may have cracked root syndrome. The possibility that a root canal or crown will improve a cracked tooth is small. Extraction is usually the only successful treatment. So your dentist is trying to save the tooth by allowing it time to heal from traumatic occlusion. If it doesn't then the diagnosis of cracked root syndrome would be confirmed.
Hairlines fractures in a tooth are almost never visible on an x-ray. An endodontist may be able to see a crack using a surgical microscope.

Still pain after wisdom teeth extraction?
i just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth cut out this past friday, and 3 are healing perfect i have not had any pain out of the what so ever, but the one on the bottom left was an inpacted tooth and it is killing me, the whole left side of my face is swollen and bruised, it hurts so bad. i dont think it is dry socket but i aint totally sure about that.. does anyone know when the pain is gonna ease up? it seems to be getting worse, the pain pills help b/c they knock me out, but i cant stay on pain pills b/c my mom leaves tom and and got my kids to take care of, and my pain pills make me dizzy and groggy...plus im really hungry lol....my mouth is so swollen i cant put my teeth together to chew anything..and what i would give for a hamburger right now lol. will the pain go away soon? or do i need to call me dr?

Call your Dr.and explain your problem. Impacted teeth hurt the most and your symptoms are normal. They had to work on that tooth a lot longer! Working in the dental field I see this all the time! Time is all that it usually takes. Try a milder form of a pain killer such as an over the counter med( Advil, Aspirin, etc) Just call your pharmacist to make sure the prescription meds won't interfere with the Over the counter one BEFORE you start that! Ice your jaw too! And try pudding! Remember to not use a straw or smoke, you don't want dry socket on top of this!!

Call your Dr.and explain your problem. Impacted teeth hurt the most and your symptoms are normal. They had to work on that tooth a lot longer! Working in the dental field I see this all the time! Time is all that it usually takes. Try a milder form of a pain killer such as an over the counter med( Advil, Aspirin, etc) Just call your pharmacist to make sure the prescription meds won't interfere with the Over the counter one BEFORE you start that! Ice your jaw too! And try pudding! Remember to not use a straw or smoke, you don't want dry socket on top of this!!

Pain after wisdom teeth extraction?
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and an impacted permanent tooth above a baby tooth removed 10 days ago. I do not have any pain where the wisdom teeth were removed, but I do have pain in my jaw joints. It's like I have an aching or tiredness in the jaw joints and cheek bones. It isn't a terrible pain but just enough to annoy you where you have to take an advil. I assumed it was just trauma from holding my jaw open for so long during the surgery, but I wasn't sure if I should still be having pain. The roof of my mouth is still a little swollen and tender as well from the impacted permanent tooth they removed so, I wasn't sure if that might have anything to do with it. Please help :0)

I think Advil is the best for that kind of pain. keeping your mind off it some way is best... i got a plastic thing like a wax bite for my pain and i put water on it and froze it... it helps alot.

ok so wednesday morning i had my wisdom teeth out, wednesday evening i took 1 tylenol 3 pill for the pain and got sick instantly from it and still am, puking since wednesday night. i stopped taking them after the first one, and have been having severe chest pain and pain radiating down my left arm since yesterday.. anyone know anything about this?? it hurts badly and im contemplating going to the ER after i call the dentist... i later found out the t-3 has hydrocodone as an active ingredient, which im allergic to in large doses, causes rash, hives, itching, bloating, ect.... anyone know anything?? been here?

You should go to the doctor right away. allergic reactions can be deadly. Some allergic reactions can casue the tounge to swell and even cut off air flow through the windpipe. Most allergic reactions are minor, but not at all pleasing. The chest pain could possibly be anxiety form getting worked up about your vomitting reaction from the tylenol 3, which is probably also causing you to be dehydrated. but it's best just to see a doctor just in case. just stay calm and have someone take you to get checked out. you don't want to be driving if your syptoms worsen. good luck and i hope your feeling better soon....

I have been having cold/hot sensitivity on my right upper side, in the back. I had several fillings done, but months later, the pain is still there. I experienced extreme tooth pain from lexapro. It went away eventually. It is on the list of side effects. Weird! They hurt so bad i wanted to pull them out. It was worth sticking it out though. the headaches and tooth pain went away. After whitening my teeth, extreme gum pain...what should I do?
I whitened my teeth several days ago, and I have whitened my teeth several times before, without problems. This time, however, my gums were very sensitive, and have slowly worsened, and are now to the point where I can't eat or talk without extreme pain. My gums and the part that connects my lip to my gums, are in extreme pain. I don't know what's wrong, and if I should just continue numbing it and wait it out, as I have been told to do, or if it's serious enough that I should make a dentist's appointment. Please help!

it can be an allergy but if you are using the same stuff as before, it probably isn't.
you probably has the gel contact the gums for too long. this is common but it will go away, just don't aggravate it more by whitening more.

Bottom teeth fillings causing pain in top fillings.?
I have 3 fillings on the top and bottom teeth. I got the top fillings 3 weeks ago and it didn't hurt. But, when I got my bottom fillings last week my top fillings started hurting at random times of the day. Usually the pain wouldn't really bother me but, the pain is coming when I am asleep. So it wakes me up and I usually have to take tylenol and wait until it took affect and go back to sleep. But that usually takes about and hour. Does anyone know what the Problem is?

It could be that maybe the dentist didn't adjust the hight of the fillings correctly and when you bite down your bite is not the same. Go back to the dentist and have him check it out with "blue bitting paper".
If that's the problem the dentist will just sand the filling a little to get a better contact. I've seen it happen lotsa times.

Can grinding and clenching your teeth cause nerve pain?
My teeth started having nerve pain to the point where I had a root canal done last year. Now the same pain is back in the tooth next to it, but the dentist says the tooth is healthy and not damaged, though there is evidence of grinding and clenching. I figure this can cause muscle pain, but nerve pain??

when this happens, the nerve the the base of your roots are affected, or even the bones supporting your teeth, take an x-ray, i would suggest and see if it has damage your periodontium.

I am 40 and am being strongly encouraged to get my wisdom teeth out. I have no pain. Should I?
Or is this yet another unnecessary medical procedure being recommended? Several dentists think I should, my friend an ER doc says, "why? you have no pain, your teeth have stopped growing." I also have a 5% risk of permanent nerve damage if I have them removed. The risk of molar damage from leaving them in is "highly likely" according to the doc.

I'm a 41 year old female and just had three wisdom teeth pulled yesterday! (I was born with two upper and only one lower). Like you, I had been told they had stopped growing, though over the years my dentist still suggested removal. At my 6 month cleaning last November, there was no sign of movement in my wisdom teeth. By December, the lower left molar started to erupt and I could see the tooth. I had no pain, it was coming in straight, and there was room in my mouth so the dentist decided to let nature take its course. I had slight pain as the tooth broke threw the gum, but nothing bad at all and was proud to be cutting a tooth (even joked about it :)
Last weekend, I had the worse pain of my life and I was out of town for the weekend. I was taking Extra Strength Tylenol (1000mg every 3 hrs) and Motrin for the swelling. Nothing worked. The lower left side of jaw was somewhat numb and I couldn't swallow due to the pain. It was excruciating. I went to the oral surgeon first thing Monday morning and he said the tooth was vertically impacted and infected. He put me on penicillin for the infection, Vicoden for the pain, and prescribed a dental rinse called Peridex which really worked to kill the bacteria. We scheduled extraction for Friday morning (yesterday) to give the infection time to heal. Tuesday and Wedsnesday I was still miserable as the penicillin takes a few days to battle the infection. I could barely get off the couch and survive without Vicoden and an ice pack! By Thursday I was more mobile and I was actually looking forward to the surgery as the pain was completely unnecessary if I had followed my dentist's advice years earlier.
Surgery was a piece of cake and completely uneventful. Of course, they go over all the risks - nerve damage, etc, etc, etc, but that's for their own statistical protection and your right as an informed consumer. I had a crown on the second molar that I was told may be damaged due to the fact it was overlapping the wisdom tooth, I already had dumbness in my jaw due to the infection so nerve damage was possible, my infected wisdom tooth was growing into the cheek and gum, etc etc etc.
In any event, I opted to get all three teeth out even though I had no issue with my upper teeth - I never ever want to go through the pain again (and I have a high tolerance for pain) and the cost was minimal to get all three done at once ($1950 for IV sedation and three extractions). I ended up paying $400 out of pocket.
The morning of surgery I was surprisingly calm. I opted for IV sedation and it was so easy I have to tell you it was 1000% times easier than a filling or root canal. I arrived about 9:30am, had a nice conversation with the nurse while she took my blood pressure in the chair, she gave me a blanket (this made me feel warm and safe, as I was nervous), she gave me a small mask with an oxygen/laughing gas mix to relax me while we chatted. When the doctor finished with his previous patient, he came in and started the IV. I remember chatting with him and thanking him for his consultation throughout the week when I was in misery... the next thing I remember was waking up wondering when it was going to begin - though the surgery was over and I was resting comfortably in the chair. The whole thing took about 90 minutes door-to-door, with the actual extraction taking about 15 minutes. The only thing I remember is feeling the stitching slide across my lip at one point as the doctor sutured my gums, but they must have administered more sedative as it's just a brief memory and no pain whatsoever. I came out of sedation very easily and felt fine yesterday - we spent the day relaxing and catching up on reality TV shows! I feel fantastic today, slight swelling and tenderness on my lower left side but I feel on top of the world and soooo thankful the pain is gone and knowing that I won't ever have to deal with that pain with my top teeth. The doctor even let me keep the top teeth (the bottom impacted tooth was in pieces due to the extraction) and I told him I hope the tooth fairy accounts for inflation as my the last time he visited was in 1980 and I got $10 at that time :)
In all seriousness, don't wait to get them removed.
My top teeth were a very easy extraction as the teeth were small and the roots hadn't started penetrating (the teeth look really cool - well formed top tooth with the roots all tightly together as they hadn't separated to grow into the jawbone yet). The bottom tooth is another story and I didn't get to keep it for obvious reasons. In three months time it went from no activity to fully impacted and infected. I have disolvable stitches in my cheek and gum but that was because I waited so long. I have no pain or swelling at all in my top teeth (the ones that were removed without symptom).
Sorry for the long note - but I spent an entire week reading blogs before my surgery and ended up scaring myself more than trusting my dental professionals. Sedation dentistry is amazing and it's the only way I'd go for wisdom tooth extraction. I still have nightmares from teeth being pulled as a child, so I was especially afraid of this extraction.
Of course there are a lot of personal factors to consider for your own case, but from my experience I thought it was all a scam to get money from the insurance company until I lived a week in hell with the impacted, infected tooth. The fact that it happened virtually overnight for me (two months elapsed time).

Reply:I wonder in what way your molars will be damaged. Sounds fishy and unnecessary to me. I vote for the do nothing approach. I had 3 out of 4 wisdom teeth removed about 10 years ago when I was in my 30s, but they were causing me problems and pain. The surgeon was very kind, but it didn't strike me as a simple procedure. He gave me IV Valium. I was still semi-conscious and it seemed like a war was going on inside my head with all the noise and vibration. He was unable to get the 4th impacted wisdom tooth, and I still have it. Recovery was the pitts. I think I would avoid was sounds like elective surgery to me.
Reply:I agree with your friend, if they dont hurt why take them out. They normally only take them out if theyre hurting you or theyre going to come in and damage or move your other teeth.
Reply:My dentist told me that unless I am having a problem then I shouldn't worry about it. He's been watching them for 30 years and things are fine.

I'm having Jaw,teeth,neck and ear pain all on the right side of my face.?
For the last 3 days I've been having this pain in my Jaw,teeth,ear and neck. It doesn't hurt when I chew or clench my teeth together. The pain comes and goes throughout the day and night. Brushing my teeth actually makes it feel better. And rinsing my mouth makes it feel better. although now the pain doesn't fully go away.It's starting to make my cheek bone hurt. Reply:I had similar sounding symptoms about 2 years ago and I had TMJ (and to be honest, I can't remember what that stands for!) Turns out I was clenching my teeth when I experienced stress of any kind. It was a hard habit to break, but being aware that I was even doing it was a big help! I had been doing it for so long that it was starting to affect my hearing. (It's all connected you know.) It's all good now!
Reply:Next monday for the doctor and next month for the dentist are just too far away. Call the dentist's office and tell them you are really in pain...they will usually see you promptly when you tell them that. TMJ is a possible cause, but I would be concerned about an infection also...so really try to get seen soon.
Reply:I would do warm presses in the area of discomfort and some massaging to relax muscles of face and jaw. You may be experiencing TMJ which can be aggravated with stress. Or who knows, it may be your wisdom teeth errupting if their not out already. Try to make it to the dentist sooner than later.
Reply:it could be due to the wisdom tooth coming out...just check out wheather the gums around your last tooth on the affected side is hurting you(press with your finger and feel). usually any pain of the lower back teeth can give an associated ear ache. an antibiotic plus pain-killer could give you lot of relief.

Reply:First look up TMJ on line and see if this sounds similar to what you are feeling. However, most people with TMJ have it come on gradually instead of being hit with the pain all at once as you have been. If it is not TMJ it sure sounds like a dental problem more than a medical one. I cannot believe your dentist cannot see you sooner on an emergency bases. Try calling back and get put on a cancelation list and they may be able to get you in sooner.

Reply:I had similar sounding symptoms about 2 years ago and I had TMJ (and to be honest, I can't remember what that stands for!) Turns out I was clenching my teeth when I experienced stress of any kind. It was a hard habit to break, but being aware that I was even doing it was a big help! Reply:Next monday for the doctor and next month for the dentist are just too far away. Call the dentist's office and tell them you are really in pain...they will usually see you promptly when you tell them that. TMJ is a possible cause, but I would be concerned about an infection also...so really try to get seen soon.
Reply:I would do warm presses in the area of discomfort and some massaging to relax muscles of face and jaw. You may be experiencing TMJ which can be aggravated with stress. Or who knows, it may be your wisdom teeth errupting if their not out already. Try to make it to the dentist sooner than later.
Reply:it could be due to the wisdom tooth coming out...just check out wheather the gums around your last tooth on the affected side is hurting you(press with your finger and feel). usually any pain of the lower back teeth can give an associated ear ache. an antibiotic plus pain-killer could give you lot of relief.

On the 13th of MArch I had prep work completed on 2 teeth for crowns that should be put in place on the 27th of MArch. I am still in pain. I went back once and they said they didn't have the temporaries aligned properly and apologized. I am still hurting taking advil for pain. Is this normal until the actual crowns get put on? Don't worry about 'bothering' the dentist and the staff... that is the reason they are there. Also, if you are experiencing that much sensitivity, I would recommend that you ask the doctor to numb you when you go in to have the permanent crown placed. This is not normally done, but should be in situations such as yours.

My 4 wisdom teeth were extracted Tuesday morning, and I felt great all day Tuesday and all day yesterday too with only minor swelling. I've been able to talk, hang out with friends, go out, and just do whatever I normally do. But for some reason, today (day 3), I woke up and the pain was much worse, my jaw hurt, I could feel the stitches, and I also had more swelling! Is this normal? Isn't the pain supposed to lessen as the days go by, not get worse? Also, I am still not able to eat what I want to...I tried eating a baked potato with barbecue, and it took me forever. I couldn't even chew it, I have to press it to the roof of my mouth in order for me to swallow it. On top of that, I notice that my other teeth that were next to my wisdom teeth hurt now as well. Whats going on??? I was doing so well... Is it normal for the pain to get worse, or do I need to go to my oral surgeon and get a check up? I just want to eat and go back to work and be normal. :(

no soda for at least two weeks.it can cause dry sockets.
to help with the pain, eat cold stuff like: yogurt, jello, icecream, anything cold.
keep ice on your cheeks for awhile. it'll help the swelling

when i got mine out i was supposed to gargle warm salt water about 4 to 6 times a day and that cleans it and takes down the swelling. mine hurt for about 5 days so id wait 2 or 3 more days and if it still hurts bad than go back to the surgeon.
Reply:It is possible, the day of and day after you could have had residual affects of the numbing agent they used to extract the teeth. The area is now realizing what appened and yes it will seem like the teeth around are aching and you might even start to have headaches.
It took me about a week before I could eat normally after having mine extracted. ( I had three taken out)
If you are concerned it can't hurt to call your oral surgeon, if nothing else they can prescribe a pain killer to help you get through the next day or two.

My doctor gave me an anti swelling agent that helped, but I still had swelling that increased for a few days post-op then went down.

It will take some time for your life to go back to normal, but I do understand the feeling. It sucks watching everyone else eat steak when you're stuck with a milkshake because it hurts. Hang in there. Your mouth will heal faster than you know it.

Wisdom teeth pulled.. numbness & pain?
i just got my 4 wisdom teeth pulled on friday,
im healing just fine %26amp; most of the pain is gone. but one side of my lower lip/gums is still numb %26amp; my front bottom teeth [NOT my wisdom teeth] are hurting ! and as the numbness goes away the pain goes away. im not worried about the numbness going away or whatever, im just getting frustrated that my front little teeth are hurting... is that normal? im just pretty confused lol. i hope that made sense.. :]

Just remember to rinse with salt water and you should still be able to brush the front teeth. It will subside soon! Just remember that this is a lot of trauma to the mouth and your remaining teeth are adjusting to the new space and therefore your other, seemingly unrelated teeth may ache from time to time!

Right Molar Pain - Cavitiy or Wisdom Teeth Related?
I am in my early 20s and have partial dental coverage though my university. I went in for a cleaning back in September and had a some pain in the upper right molars. The dentist poked around and didn't think it was a cavity without taking any x-rays. The pain wasn't always there and would go away in a day. The dentist thinks it might have something to do with my wisdom teeth and suggested I removed them. Although the pain is in the teeth next to the teeth next to the wisdom teeth.
Now the pain has been coming back and going away for a week now. I don't know if I should go back to the same dentist or not because with he will cover the cost my dental plan doesn't . I wonder if it might be a cavity because when I feel this molar with my tongue, I could feel a hole. Meanwhile, the dentist has been calling to see if I want to get my wisdom teeth removed.
Should I go back to this dentist and ask him to check if it is a cavity or go to see someone else. Or it is something else?

It is likely that your dentist is correct about the problem being your wisdom teeth. Those teeth do weird things like come in at different angles thus pushing your good teeth out of alignment. Wisdom teeth can also break through the gum line and then recede leaving a hole that, if food or bacteria get into (very likely) can get infected.
There is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion and/or x-rays to confirm the need for the removal of your wisdom teeth. Don't be shy about asking your health center dentist about taking x-rays (especially since they're free or close to it). Regardless, make certain that YOU have a chance to examine the x-rays with your doctor pointing out why you need the extractions or not.
It is your health ... you must take charge and ask questions.
Good luck ... OH, one more thing ... (maybe two) ... I'd highly suggest that you get all four out at once (a little more pain, but you only have the pain one time as opposed to having two out on two different occasions) ... AND, be sure you feel confident in the oral surgeon or dentist that will do the extractions.

I wonder if it might be a cavity because when I feel this molar with my tongue, I could feel a hole. Meanwhile, the dentist has been calling to see if I want to get my wisdom teeth removed.
Should I go back to this dentist and ask him to check if it is a cavity or go to see someone else. Or it is something else?
Right Molar Pain - Cavitiy or Wisdom Teeth Related?
It is likely that your dentist is correct about the problem being your wisdom teeth. Those teeth do weird things like come in at different angles thus pushing your good teeth out of alignment. Wisdom teeth can also break through the gum line and then recede leaving a hole that, if food or bacteria get into (very likely) can get infected.
There is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion and/or x-rays to confirm the need for the removal of your wisdom teeth. Don't be shy about asking your health center dentist about taking x-rays (especially since they're free or close to it). Regardless, make certain that YOU have a chance to examine the x-rays with your doctor pointing out why you need the extractions or not.
It is your health ... you must take charge and ask questions.
Good luck ... OH, one more thing ... (maybe two) ... I'd highly suggest that you get all four out at once (a little more pain, but you only have the pain one time as opposed to having two out on two different occasions) ... AND, be sure you feel confident in the oral surgeon or dentist that will do the extractions.

Why would gum disease cause tooth pain? Some of my teeth hurt from gum disease-why is that?
Pain from gum disease, probably not decay, but anything is possible. What I typically see is gum recession from gum disease and exposed roots in the small molars on eaither side of the mouth. if you touch something cold to the teeth like iced water the tooth will fire off an owie and you feel the tooth. . . zingg. . this type of pain is quick to come and quick to subside. If you drag your nail across the tooth at the base near the gum and it fires off. Thats IT!

I had all four cut out and to me it was worse than having my 4 yes...4 kids natural. You can't talk, eat, drink or anything. It is normal just make sure you swish you mouth and clean out ALL of the food or it can get infected (mine did) your jaw will swell up and feel hot to the touch and be puffy. I had a syringe to put warm water in and put down in the holes where they were cut out to wash all of the food out. Oh my how much food was packed down in there. Don't suck out of a straw it will cause dry socket!!! Just mouth wash and call the Dr. for pain medication.. they gave me loratabs and I also took advil with it. I slept with a heating pad on my face it helps a lot on low/medium heat. I hope this helps but I was in pain for a good month or longer. Good luck!!

I'm a dentists. If you have been having trouble with a tooth lately that is the only way the ear pain could be connected. Otherwise you may have an ear infection due to some other cause. If you haven't had any trouble with your teeth/tooth then go and see your medical doctor to determine what the problem with your ear is.

I recently got 2 of my 5 wisdom teeth pulled on the same side of my mouth, I'm still in some pain?
I got my wisdom teeth pulled(2 of the 5 on just one side) abotu 3 weeks ago. I recently been haveing sharp pain originating from that area up to the top of my head. And it takes a couple minutes to pass. It also feels as if I have a cavitity there. I have holes where the wisdom teeth where, are those called dry sockets? Will they fill up eventually? Is the pain my teeth settling in there new position. The dentist told me it would take awhile for my teeth to heal do to my age (26) is this true also?

I have extreme pain radiating from my jaw to my chin which comes and goes every few minutes. Teeth feel fine.
Could this be dental related even though my teeth don't hurt? I had a deep filling done in that area several months ago. I don't feel pain in teeth, just in the chin area radiating from jaw. Pain is excruciating, then subsides, then a few minutes later it comes back again! This has been going on for several days and keeping me awake all night. I have dental appt. on Monday. I got two permanent teeth removed today and they hurt like crazy! I dont know why but it made the rest of my day depressing.

Also rinse your mouth out with warm salty water as often as you need to. Make sure that the water is very salty.

Swollen gums, slight jaw pain...wisdom teeth or infection?
Sunday night my gums were slightly sore and became increasingly swollen since then. I also have a slight pain in a very tiny section of my jaw. Is this food in gums, an infection, or possibly wisdom teeth coming in? What is a quick fix solution to the swelling until i can get into the dentist?

Mine got so bad and I just kept trying to take advil and ignore it thinking it was just sore gums that when it got to the point where i couldn't stand it anymore that when i called and told an oral surgian what was going on, he told me to come in that day and removed my wisdom teeth. the dentist could just give you antibiotics for the infection but really the best thing to do is just go ahead and get those wisdom teeth pulled cause you could get another infection. As of waiting until monday- take about 4 advils you aren't going to overdose as long as you still wait 4 hours to take more. and dont let the medicine wear off. every for hours take more meds casue if it wears of you know its gonna be hurtin still! also just load up on the ambisall.
oh and rinse with luke warm salt water

Wisdom teeth pain abcess?
I have one wisdom tooth which has broken through, with no issues.
However I think another wisdom ttoth is now pushing but from memory a I think it may have been crooked.
I think I may have a abcess, a patch of my gum is all soft and squishy and very painful if I push it.
The whole area feels a bit tender and swollen.
Any ideas or suggestions? Its Sunday morning here and so I can't get to a Dentist til at least tomorrow

Reply:It will be tender and swollen from trying to push through the surface of your gum. It may not mean you have an abcess. The best thing for it is to rinse with warm salt water and use oral gel to numb the pain and take a couple ibprophen. All this will make it feel better. I have a wisdom tooth that "appears" from time to time and it feels the same, but it goes back under and there isnt a problem. Just keep it clean and use the sallt water.

However I think another wisdom ttoth is now pushing but from memory a I think it may have been crooked.
I think I may have a abcess, a patch of my gum is all soft and squishy and very painful if I push it.
The whole area feels a bit tender and swollen.
Any ideas or suggestions? Its Sunday morning here and so I can't get to a Dentist til at least tomorrow

Anyone had pain in teeth on a plane like electic shocks? Any remedy for next flight?
I have recently returned home via aeroplane and experienced sharp excruciating pain in some of my metal-filled teeth, like electic shocks. Has anyone else had same and found the cause and remedy please?

How can I stop the pain of teeth growing in?
I'm at my aunt's house till septeber-and my baby chew toys are back at my house-or else I'd be chewing on thoose....
I'm starting to grow my adult teeth in and the pain has hurt the whole side of my mouth...
It's either my adult teeth or my wisdoms need to be plucked...I havn't lost all of my baby teeth yet......
Anyways-i thikn were out of carrots, and chewing on my finger hurts...
It jsut started comeing out, and it's jsut now breaking my gum...Hurts-And tastes a tad bit like blood, but tissue dosen't have any blood on it...
(If this tells you anything- I was foaming the other day due to not drinking anought water)

While I was pregnant, I had a wisdom tooth coming in and I couldn't take tylenol or anything like that. My doctor suggested putting a little spicy mustard where the pain was. It actually worked. I dont promise it will go away completely, but it'll feel much better.

Reply:call your dentist at home, see if he can get you a pain reliever until you get back so you can see him. Those wisdoms are painful. They could be growing against the roots of your other teeth and if you dont see a dentist, it could pull out more teeth than necessary!

Reply:There are some over the counter analgysics (sp?) that are stronger than advil. I had a bad tooth while preggo and I froze washclothes and chewed on them. That froze it a little bit. My sister also tried the liquigel advils and breaking one open over the area and she swore by it!
